We bought a house 3 years ago with a security alarm that we've never used. Last night it started going off around 2am, clearly some glitch, and we had no idea WTF to do to turn it off. I vaguely remembered the realtor telling us that the security code was a year in the 20th century so I went through the latter half of the 1900s before I finally got it right and the damn thing turned off. FFS.
If you don’t use the system I would recommend powering down(it will probably happen again). There is a power source and a back up battery. Once both are unplugged the system will be completely powered down.
H is a blanket stealer (new behavior for him). Now that the nights have turned cold I keep waking up cold only to realize I just have the sheet or one of our two blankets on me. I'm so tired due to multiple nights of very broken sleep.
Individual blankets. Do it.
Yeah, DH and I haven't shared blankets in like 15 years- two twin size duvets folded in half fit side by side on the bed with a coverlet over them to keep things looking tidy. There's no reason to not have your own.

Yes, we need to figure this all out for sure. Its an old system and we have no instructions or system type info. At least now we know its not connected to the police though!

I haven't read all of the responses.
Hoping all FL posters are safe and ok!
I got my DH a Cameo of his favorite WWF/E wrestler (Mick Foley) for his birthday but it came back way sooner than expected as his b-day isn't for a couple of weeks. It's so cool! I got too in the weeds about my husband's fandom rather than "my husband does this for a job or likes x" (my husband has the kind of job that they want a lot of praise ::eye roll:, but he should still like it. I think the wrestler actually put a lot of effort in seeing my husbands fandom. Anyway, I'm so excited I may send him the link this weekend. Someone please put a block on Cameo though. I had never heard of it and now I've done three in a month, lol.
One of my former Student Ambassadors texted me asking a question/interview for a business class. I'm so honored to still be remembered, and getting a bit of karma as I totally phoned in interview projects in college. I think I'm going to respond asking for them to email me so I can write the response back. Meet in the middle so they still learn some professional skills.

This is why my husband and I each have our own blanket.
Just once I'd like to buy something online and not be immediately subscribed to receiving 4 billion emails a week, even after clicking the box that says don't contact me for deals.
Ds woke me up at 3:30 because the dog vomited on his bed, so that was fun. I put her in our room and an hour later she vomited on our floor. I was basically awake from 3:30 until the alarm went off at 6:00 so I made H drive ds to school this morning so I could get some extra sleep.
I have to get my Texas sized kidney stone lasered next Thursday and I'm so anxious about it. We have stuff to do over the weekend and I have no idea if I will feel well enough to be able to do them or not. I need someone to walk me through the aftermath! lol

This was my favorite thing about one of the hotels we stayed in when we visited Germany last year. The "king size" bed was really two twin beds pushed together, and there were two separate duvets on each side of the bed. candreco, I love the idea of having the separate duvets with a coverlet over them! Definitely will consider that next time we update bedding.
I've been a day ahead all week and am so upset it's not Friday.
I thought I was doing better with exercise and getting stronger, but yesterday we had a full building evacuation drill at work and I had to walk down 18 flights of stairs. For the rest of the day my legs were jelly and kept giving out. Today they are on fire.
Even at my fittest (and I played D1 sport) going down that many flights of stairs would have knocked me out, because it's a very different type of fitness than most of us train for, so please give yourself some grace and do a lot of stretching!
DS had his 8 year well-check this morning. He got his flu shot, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn they finally carry the Covid vaccine at their office (they never had any of the previous versions). They didn't have any thawed, but I scheduled him to stop by after school next Thursday for him to get that. Much better than getting it at a pharmacy from someone who may or may not be good w/ kids.
Today is school picture day. I let DS wear his Chicago Bulls jersey and he picked the American flag for his photo background, so that's going to look hilarious. I could have held a hard line and made him dress up, but I don't really care about school pictures, and why not let him be himself (and probably provide us all with some amusement?)
I'm so looking forward to the weekend. We have some plans for Saturday during the day, but otherwise don't have much going on.
View AttachmentI recently bought this sweater. I thought it was cute, but it came and I was like nope, crosses the line. I do have a black sweatshirt with spiderwebs that I wear during Oct. though. I feel like it's subtle enough to be halloweeny without being overly kitschy.
I cannot see what’s on this sweater clearly enough lol. Flowers? Birds? What is crossing the line?
It's flowers and birds. And I still think it looks cute when looking at the picture, but on me, I feel like it just made me look like I should be wearing a full-length denim skirt and teaching little kids and shopping at Christopher and Banks (is that the store that I imagine would have like A B C sweaters and rick-rack on them in the window? If not, whatever store I'm thinking of that had those, because that was the vibe it was giving).
DS and DH both got tetanus boosters this week. DS had a work injury Sunday and got his Monday between classes. He was tired after dinner and not 100% until Wednesday when he woke up. DS got flu as well but he doesn't usually react to flu vaccine. DH got his yesterday. He is merely complaining of a sore arm but I noticed he turned in early last night and slept later than usual. He's napping now.

Congratulations Jalapeñomel,! I hope it works out well as I know there were concerns about plugs and such.
I'm in the day ahead camp too. It's going to be a looong Friday tomorrow.
My DH had to run lots of flights of stairs when he was in training for his current job. He was younger and in better shape and said he had nightmares about the stairs. I honestly don't know how folks aren't winded even if they're in good shape.

I'm annoyed. I had in my calendar that dd has a 1/2 day today because their open house is tonight. I scheduled my dogs for nail trims at 2 thinking she'd be home to help me take both of them (otherwise I usually do them 1 at a time). I was surprised she wasn't home yet and we need to leave in a few min., so I looked up the details from an old email, and the dismissal isn't until 1:40, so she won't be getting home till 2. So now I get to struggle with both dogs in the pet store that doesn't have automatic doors and hope there aren't any other dogs there for my reactive one to bark at.
I emailed a client earlier and asked to connect in the next week. He just replied back and said "Friday at 6pm works" and sent me a calendar invite. Sir, no.

So cool! I actually met Mick Foley years ago - he checked into the hotel I was working at. He was incredibly nice and signed an autograph for my then-husband.

ProfessorArtNerd have you had kidney stones lasered? Hope tagging you is okay!

The best thing we ever did was split blankets. We have a king bed and each have a queen blanket. We also had problems with stealing and our dogs would lay in the middle and hog too much so we couldn’t get enough on the sides. It makes having a nice looking bed difficult but is totally worth the trade off.
Every once in a while I’ll wander into Nextdoor and the craziness is just…..crazy. There is a post from someone today that says “My accountant says that I need an appraisal for my $20,000 in donated merchandise to Goodwill. If this is true does anyone have an appraiser recommendation”. Yes sir, you can’t take a massive tax deduction to Goodwill of all places without proof that what you donated is worth $20k.
I feel like some of these people are new to the world.

Haha yes! We just went to Croatia and spent a week on a boat and the beds were like that. DH and me both said we liked the separate duvet covers!

The procedure is not bad, and you probably know how easily you take anesthesia by now. The annoying part after is the stent. I had two last time, and they bothered me less than the one I had this past week. It feels kind of the the very first time you notice you’re probably getting a UTI. Burning, some blood in your urine, some urgency you don’t usually have. I was so relieved to get mine out this time. The previous two times, though, it was just a nuisance. Hope you feel better soon! Drink so much water it really does help with the discomfort

Thank you! Luckily the stone isn't bothering me. We found it on accident when I had an xray done on my lower back in June.
One doc says I'll probably need a stent and the other one says no so who knows what will happen there.
I'm supposed to be out on snowmobile trails in our side by side with no easy access to bathrooms on Sunday. Ds and I also have dentist appointments 1.5 hours away on Saturday...wondering if I should reschedule those if I'm going to need quick access to bathrooms since bathrooms don't really exist on our mountain. Lol.

I was on the phone with my boss discussing issue with a new grad student. I was interrupted by the police dept (!) calling me to tell me to shelter in place because of an officer involved shooting on my street (!!!). I called my boss back to be interrupted a moment later by my son's school going into lock down because of the shooting (2nd 'secure the school' in as many weeks). I called him back and no less than 1 minute into that call my mom sent me a picture of my dad in the ER after a heart attack (!!! with no context either because thats my mother).
I am teaching until 10 pm students that do not know what I mean when I say average the numbers.
