Get as far north as you can. Go as dark as you can. Look at the sky through your phone. Learn how to take a picture using a long exposure and use a phone tripod if you have one.
Go out as soon as the sun sets all the way until about 3 am.
This is such an aggressive order. Lol. I’m at the edge of the viewing area so I don’t know if I’ll be able to see them, but my goodness I hope you can!

To put it into perspective, I’m in central Arkansas and photographers are gearing up. If you are anywhere along the same latitude or above me, make plans.
Yes. The numbers look great for tonight. You may be able to see them from the plane if you’re coming in after dark.
Well shit. I land at 11:15pm so yes!
My family lives maybe 20 minutes from the city but it might as well be the sticks. It’s very dark!
Pull the window cover down so that it’s only open enough for your phone to fit. If you have it wide open, the lights from inside the plane will make a glare off the outermost glass.

If the numbers stay like they are, this could be absolutely spectacular. KP is up around 7 (which is great), and the Bz is -50 right now which is incredible. Speed and density are also high (over 600 and around 20 respectively, which also bode really well.)
There is more to it than that - I’m not a scientist - but I’ve been looking at Northern Lights pages since last weekend and I’m really excited. lol

We just went outside and looked, but couldn't see anything. All my local fb friends are posting pictures (they mostly live 1 town over), but I'm not sure if it's just visible with a long exposure camera shot, or we're just not in a good place in our area to see them. I even made ds download a compass app to make sure we were looking north.

Put your camera in night mode, then make sure you actually look at the picture! That is how I've had to do it the last 2 times I've seen them!
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
I got a great pic in our yard of all places. Then I made H drive to bumblefuck northwest with far less light pollution but I guess the deep colors peaked early and we didn’t really see anything. But it was very exciting to see it at home!

Really amazing out there tonight. The boys thought it was cool for a bit and ran around on the beach, but then they got bored because it was mostly just camera-visible at first. (You could see the aurora as a filmy white cloudy thing, but only the camera picked up the color.)
But then as we were driving home, I saw there was a substorm, so we pulled off to a local park and were able to see it with our eyes too. So freaking cool.

Absolutely amazing! We were able to see the pink faintly with our naked eye. Got some photos of the most vibrant pink around 9:00 and earlier tonight got some purple and green. It’s on my bucket list my whole adult life to see the Aurora and I never thought I’d get to see them so vibrantly from IL. I’m so giddy right now.

Right around 7:30 they were out at my house which is crazy! We have SO much light pollution I can’t believe I saw them there.
Then I decided to meet a friend at the lake to get better pics. We went in May and it was amazing so I had high hopes. But it was a bust when we got there. Everything had died down. I stayed for a while and just as I was walking away I made my last look. The sky erupted and the huge crowd of people literally cheered and clapped! It was unbelievable!! I got to see red aurora!

We were able to see it this time! Such an amazing experiences
I have a friend who moved to Alaska. He has been poking fun of everyone from our group who is posting pictures. He is posting a picture with the caption “I got a great shot too!” Obviously, his is way more intense and colorful.
