I finished Nothing to Envy by Barbara Demick and am reading 1984 by George Orwell. 1984 was mentioned in Nothing to Envy and I haven't read it so I figured I would pick it up. There is an eerie feeling to reading 1984 after reading about North Korea.
QOTW: I saw it quite a few times growing up. I grew up in a very rural area so it was easy to see if you stepped outside at night. I haven't seen it since I moved away, but I keep meaning to take my kids to see it.
I read the first third of The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman before giving up. It's not a bad book but it wasn't holding my attention and at almost 700 pages I just didn't want to force myself to stick with it.
Then I read Ushers by Joe Hill. This short story was a bonus Kindle First read and I really enjoyed it.
Next I started Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman. I quit that one after 5 pages. The book is told from the perspective of a young child and the writing is supposed to reflect that. The formatting is also intentionally weird. I knew there was no way even the best story could overcome those issues.
Finally I started House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland last night, something that has been on my Kindle for ages. It has creepy vibes appropriate for October and the story is interesting so hopefully I'll be able to finish this one!
QOTW: I have not! It seems like everyone around me saw them last night but I think it's too bright in the city where we live.

Finished Rouge and The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. I liked the climax through the end of Rouge, but it took a while to get into. And I loved that The Last Tale of the Flower Bride was an homage to fairytales, but I didn't feel like it was true to them in the way it ended.
I started listening to Gilded, a Rumplestiltskin retelling, and so far I'm enjoying it.
QOTW: Have you ever seen the Northern Lights? Did you travel to see them or was it just a coincidence? I've never seen them, but I hope to one day. It'll definitely involve dedicated travel.
