I have an eye appt and will get new glasses (progressives). I don't like the kind with the nose pieces because they get stuck in my hair. I will sometimes put my glasses on my head. haha
It's really going to depend on the shape and proportions of your facial features. I have these currently. They're almost identical to my last 3 pair except the tortie has a bit of blue in it which makes my eyes look bluer. The stripey purple ones are cute too. They don't get tangled in my hair (they spend a lot of time on my head) and the lenses are large enough for progressives.
I have tortoiseshell glasses, and I like them okay. What I love about them are the ear pieces are like toddler glasses: soft and bendable. I’m going to have a hard time giving them up even though I really like other styles’ looks better.
Ditto that it depends on the size and shape of your face. I’ve had good luck with Warby Parker acetate glasses, though I think they skew slightly masculine.
I personally prefer to go into a store to try on glasses. I recommend going to an optical shop and trying on a bunch of pairs to see what you like. Pay attention to the size and dimensions of frames that fit you well — there are three numbers printed inside the arms at the temple that show the lens width, bridge width, and arm length. Those numbers are a great place to start when looking for frames online that will fit your face well!

I currently have Kate Spade frames that are a transparent blush pink that I love. They’re hard plastic, no nose pieces or anything, which is a style frame I prefer. I think I went to 25+ stores over 5 months to find these, all in person because I need to see them on my face and feel them to know if I like them. I got them 3 years ago and still adore them. I dread when they wear out and I need to replace them.

If you know the style you can pick up an extra frame and hang on to it. I’ve done that with Kate Spade glasses before. I’ve found back stock pretty cheap online. They really fit the best!

I have 3 pairs right now, Kate Spade, Warby Parker, and Zenni, which incidentally puts them in order of how much I like them, and also how much they cost. For how much I wear glasses (which is not much, I primarily wear contacts), Warby Parker is a nice sweet spot for me. Trying them on in store was key though, I did not come out with the same pair I thought I'd get going in.

I prefer plastic/acetate frames, as I also hate nosepieces. Plus I have such a strong prescription that my lenses are rather thick, and think the plastic/acetate just work better for this.
I also agree that certain frames shapes work better on certain face shapes. I have a more round/oval face, and find that square, rectangle, or rectangular cat-eye work best for my face. I always like to try frames on in person, as I have a smaller face, so want to make sure the size also is right for my face.
I usually gravitate to a darker frame color, as that also seems to work best on my complexion.
