meanie , I'm a software product manager (with a biotech background that I can leverage or not as is useful)
Same and yeah, the return to in office is making the job market so much harder. I get frustrated with my job sometimes, but then remember I do not want to be trying to find one. I don't think we're even hiring for PMs at the moment, but if you're in the Dallas, Chicago, Cape Girardeau, MO or Centennial, CO area let me know and I can keep an eye out. We're a healthcare-related company that does some software development.
The non profit I’m on the board of is hosting a big fundraiser this weekend. Someone donated a bottle of bourbon with a sticker of Trump on it. We operate on a military base where I can’t have any political signs or flags other than an American flag at my house.
The rest of the committee thought it was great and said we should auction it off. It apparently goes for $300 on the secondary market. I said we can’t use it and the people kept pushing back. I got our senior advisor to back me up and her husband, a GO, agreed too. WTF people.
Is there any way to remove the sticker?
Probably not very easily, there’s another label under it. No one else will put the effort in, I do t have the time and frankly don’t want to! Without the Trump sticker it’s just a buffalo trace bottle that retails for $25.
I'm supposed to be doing annual employee appraisals but it's cold outside and I just want to snuggle under a blanket on the couch with the dog and read. Or maybe bake something with the million apples we picked this weekend.
Anyone have Room & Board Andre or Crate & Barrel Avondale sofas? I am hating sofa shopping- it seems impossible to tell what's going to be durable, and my dog does dig at the cushions sometimes so I need a fabric that's basically cat-friendly, not just dog/kid-friendly. I'm leaning toward the Andre in Sumner fabric, but uuugghhhh. I should post this on H&G too, I guess.
We have had the R&B Andre in Sumner. 7 years old, kids and a dog that is theoretically not allowed on the couch but ignores that rule. It has held up really really well. I have no complaints, I love it. Its nice and firm, you don't sink into it.

rubytue , every time I go to Singapore (3-4 times a year) I'm caught up on conversion rates. The problem is numbers wise it's the same as malaysian ringgit. The difference is that they're not at all the same due to wildly different COL. So, I'll think, oh, 25 for a drink. Not bad! That's less than $6 and is standard cocktail price where I live. But, no, it's 24 SGD which is nearly $20usd. It takes real effort to remember that despite it being such a quick and cheap flight, prices are wildly different.

My neighborhood laundromat has 1 large capacity and 4 regular. 6 dryers, 2 of which were recently added (people sometimes wash at home and dry in machines since it's monsoon season). It's on my block, so I often come home instead of waiting in the heat (unless I'm using their wifi). I love that it's common and totally safe to leave loads unattended.
The flip side is having the consideration to not let stuff wait too long. Today, as I was midway through my dry cycle, I thought it would be a good idea to do all my bed and towel linens. For this I prefer the large capacity. The person using it had about 5 minutes left, no one was waiting, and that's about how long it took me to return where I saw, yes, her load was finished.
I waited 10-15 minutes before just stuffing everything into a regular sized because it does fit. It's just not my preference.
She eventually showed up nearly 2 hours after it stopped. By then a family had moved her stuff to the basket. Apparently this is common and acceptable. Lesson learned. I'll not be waiting next time. You'd think after years of living here I'd have encountered this before. But, nope. Still learning

When I call at meeting, I tell people what it's about and if I need them to bring anything. If someone calls a meeting with me, I gather any documents and do a super quick review, so I'm prepared. My boss just complained and told me I'm too formal.

WTF. You have had some truly terrible bosses in recent years, if I'm remembering correctly. This is not being formal - it's being an organized and considerate person!

I still have my Andre sofa that we bought in 2004! Aside from a missing button in one of the tufts that I’ve been too lazy to fix and the cat scratches on one arm, it’s in perfect shape. It’s our sunroom sofa now but it still gets used regularly, by humans, cats, and dogs.
I hope I don't sound like an awful person... but I have cut my workout short 2 days in a row because of a woman who has terrible BO. A cloud of dank body odor wafted over me and I noped my way out of there.
Either she doesn't realize (how?!) or she isn't wearing deodorant for whatever reason, I promise I would never say anything to her but I know my face is probably saying it all.
I live just outside of Asheville and our gym reopened last week. Many people still didn't have running water yet so there were some strong smells in there. To make it worse, one of the class instructors made us all hug before class started as everyone here has been through so much. I'm not a hugger at the best of times. I certainly didn't want to hug smelly people at the gym!
My kids (5 and 8) are going as Harry and Hermione for Halloween, and I feel a little cringey about it because JK Rowling has proven herself such a terrible human. Usually we do family costumes (Star Wars) but this year the adults are sitting it out. I hope the kids aren't too bummed. We really never did agree on H's costume in the HP universe, so I'm semi-blaming that. But it's not the only reason.

My people know I love an agenda. I learned it from a highly respected attorney I worked with. He never wanted meetings to go too long or too off topic and he made sure people knew their due outs.
It's so important to manage expectations top to bottom.
I finally found a living room rug that DH and I agree on, but Wayfair's price fluctuations are ridiculous. It's gone from $199 to $275.
I'm hoping for a good sale closer to the holidays. We need a new one after the dog, but it's not a now or never purchase and we have other bills to prioritize right now.

Well, I think I recovered from my Monday of being out too late on a school night. I got 10 hours of sleep last night, lol.
We got our info about raises and bonuses today and while my raise could be better, my bonus is more than double what it was last year. 😳 I'm shocked! It's good my boss told me this week b/c it's been kind of a weird week at work, so I'm keeping this in mind every time I think "what in the actual hell is going on here?!" LOL

L decided that Cookie's full name is Cookie Chispitas Arroz. I just took her to the local animal protection office where they microchip for free and also take care of registering your pet in the national pet registry. They asked if I wanted to register just as Cookie or as Cookie LastName, and I said just Cookie, but ha, technically according to my 3 year old her full name is... Both the admin lady and the vet were like well, we should respect that, and now that is her name in an official government database, which just amuses me.
I’m getting a chemical peel tonight at a plastic surgery office. It’s done by an esthetician. Do I tip? Google is leaning towards no since it’s a med office.
It was 35 when I sent the kids to school today. I’m not ready for this weather!
We have our first cool weather! Everyone is in the best mood!!
Yes! I’m a wearing sweatshirt! Outside! I didn’t sweat this morning on my walk!! It’s amazing and tomorrow should be even better!! I’m getting my soups in this week before summer returns next week.
H and I were driving the other day and saw a single abortion protester. He was no where near a clinic. He was literally in front of a Red Robin restaurant, it was bizarre. It was a nice day and we had the windows down so I randomly felt compelled to shout “yay for abortions!” Just go to hell with that shit, man.

The Zoom meet and greet went well, she didn't have her camera on but that was ok. She talked candidly to them about what she was looking for. They appreciated her engagement with them bc her 100p IEP/BIP is all about her non-engagement.
We have a time to check out the campus Friday afternoon. Fingers crossed this all goes well and she doesn't change the goalposts again on me.
She's been having a HARD time w the move. She still hasn't made any friends here bc she hasn't been in school. She refers to her room as her 'dungeon'. She goes down to visit her friends at our old house just about every weekend. I think her starting school even with a classroom of 10 kids with more on the same campus but in a different program (the one they told us she'd be a fit for this year but 'forgot' that bc she's not 16 she can't do it) will do wonders for her and she'll make some friends here.

This comes up more often than you’d think- what’s the proper response for “professor, I won’t be in class today bc I have court”. Bc I want to say TELL ME EVERYTHING bc I’m nosy as hell.

ew ew ew to the forced hugging and smelly people! I swear my sense of smell has become more acute as I have gotten older, this would be the death of me.

I have! Thankfully my current boss isn't super terrible, but occasionally he'll drive me crazy with stuff like this. I have a meeting with the higher ups next week to go over his official retirement plan and when I'll be moving into his position. So I have limited time left with him. I think.

Not the advice you asked for but I got one last thur! The Perfect Derma Peel was the brand so they may be using the same one. My skin looked crazy Sat/Sun mostly, a little better each day. Today its pretty much back to normal except a few dry spots and still feel dry and tight all over. My skin definitely looks better though. I was doing it for brown spots. I'm planning on getting another one right before Thanksgiving.
As far as the tip, I maybe would if there is a spot for it on the credit card receipt. I went to a med spa and they do take tips.
H is at a conference this week and the dogs are used to walking with him first thing in the morning. I make them wait until after my standup meeting (so we go at 9:30am) because it's still a little dark earlier and we have bobcats and coyotes in our neighborhood. They're so annoyed with me. Donny's just laying on the floor behind me, intermittently moaning.
How do 'we' feel about pre-printed photo thank you postcards sent out after a wedding? Even if there's a hand-written note on it? I felt weird getting one. On one hand, I was happy to see a pro photo of the couple as I'm not likely to see them for this couple otherwise. And I'm all for them saving money and paper by sending a post card instead of a thank you note in an envelope. I think my issue was that the hand-written part was just as generic and non-personalized as the printed thank you statement, it didn't even have our names hand-written. But then thinking more about it, I can't remember if we personalized our thank yous or just wrote the same thing on every card. I think I'm ending up in the camp of any thank you is an appropriate thank you. But now I feel weird throwing out the card since it is a picture, but I'm also not saving it.
I have no problem with this. I do hate the whole "address your own thank you card envelope while you are at a shower type event" thing. We went to a baby shower this year and all had to address our own cards. I had to do it at a baby shower 12 years ago, too. Big ick, in my opinion.
wildrice I would call animal control or the non-emergency police number, 100%.

followyourarrow you can't make that stuff up! No meeting agenda makes me crazy. It's often a best practice in trainings on "how to run an effective meeting" to send an agenda and ask for agenda items, and even a reason to gently push back send an agenda or cancel the meeting (because it will be a waste of time). Obviously some orgs will be more flexible, and some just have meetings to waste time. I was lucky to have one boss who required an agenda the night before or she'd cancel, but it's hit or miss everywhere else. Anyway that guy REALLY needs to retire!
I had to take more time off of work to go to the social security office because they don't accept POA as a legal document, and won't allow you to apply to handle affairs as POA online. Thankfully I got there before they opened and was 4th in line, but the line grew by 20 people by the time we got let in. 1.5 hours total with no resolution. The woman was kind of snippy acting like I shouldn't be there (without an appointment?), but they wouldn't let me book an apt over the phone or online when I called the night before. She let me fill out a big stack of papers, but it takes at least 2 weeks to process, and I'm pretty sure I made a mistake. I wouldn't be so worried except I was able to change my dads address to mine (to get his mail) and now it's screwing up his health insurance in another state. Honest to goodness can one thing not be a giant PITA?
I've been trying to give DH heads up let's do x and y for his folks while they can still make decisions, but he just shrugs "well my brother is POA (I think)". Cool, well then don't complain when it's a huge mess and your brother needs a lot of help like we're going through now...especially if you know SSA just told me they won't take POA for social security, but what do I know?
Finally, I was listening to "Hey Dude the 90's Called" Pod Cast the Skeet Ulrich episode. Cruising along while I work as I start to think "he wasn't in 'The Craft' movie"..."he wasn't the killer in 'Scream'"...and then finally realize I'm thinking of Jamie Kennedy when they mentioned Skeets time on Riverdale. Guess I need to watch both movies this weekend, lol.

Oh address your own envelope drives me nuts too. I don't know what it is because I know it's "easier" on the recipient...but nowadays it's somewhat easy to put addresses in a spreadsheet and print labels. Obviously assuming your printer isn't a giant PITA. Either way you can address some envelopes for the effort and cost of a gift on the givers part.
@@@ As far as the photo thank yous, I guess they're better than no thank you note at all, which is sadly so typical. On the other hand they feel quite impersonal, and pretty wasteful. It's like photo holiday cards. Folks are so kind to include us in a bunch, and it's great to see the kids, but we throw the cards out by Jan 1st if not sooner. So much wasted paper and ink. I guess my compromise would be finding a way to do a nice e- thank you to confirm receipt of said gift, but I don't know how to do that.
