This is just a feel good story that I thought I'd share. Red Bull Rampage is an elite invitation-only downhill mountain bike event that is considered the peak of the sport. Women have been advocating to be included for years, and were finally allowed to compete this year.
I sort of can't believe that we are in 2024 and still having to fight for a spot at the table in some spaces. But I'm so proud of these women-- they are such badasses.
Soon came Georgia Astle, 27, another Canadian. She navigated a steep gully that she and others christened the “Chuterus,” though race officials publicly labeled it “Chutes ‘R’ Us.” It was a tight, downhill passage leading to a tricky exit and toward even more frightening obstacles.

This is so awesome!
tangent, as I do… y’all know I fence. There are three weapons (styles if you will) of Olympic fencing. I fenced foil in college. Now, I fence foil and saber. Because, when I was in college, women were only allowed to fence foil in college leagues. The Olympics added epee in 1996, the year I graduated college. And women’s saber became an Olympic sport in 2004. The “kids” I fence with (defined as 20-somethings 🤣) are just in awe of this. That I’m older than a lot of women’s fencing.

Badass!
I was telling someone the other day how my mom marched in Blue Band and she had to correct me that while she was in Penn State's band, she wasn't allowed to march during games since women weren't permitted to back then.
