My dog was outside playing with her friend dog. We have woods behind our houses and there are sticks everywhere. So she had a stick, and suddenly yelped and gagged and dropped it. She must have gotten one end jammed into the ground so the other end hit the back of her throat. I didn't think much of it, but came in and Googled, and now I am worried b/c apparently this can be a really bad thing (or it can be nothing!). Called the vet and vet said to just monitor overnight since my dog is terrible with the vet and would need sedation for them to be able to look in her throat.
She's sleeping on her dog bed. Ate a couple treats. Seemed super freaked out by the incident and somewhat subdued, but no gagging, bleeding, trouble breathing, coughing.
Any tales of this happening with your dog and it being no big deal?? I'm really hoping for no big deal.
UPDdATE: She ended up being totally fine from this. I think we were lucky that she had just started trotting off and wasn't at full speed. I did, unfortunately, see some Google stories about stick fatalities, but she was fine. However, she also ate half a stick of butter a couple days later, started vomiting, ended up at the vet...so that wasn't great. For extra peace of mind the vet looked down her throat a bit while we were there and didn't see anything at all.
