I realize I sound like a dinosaur by asking this, but my sister was shocked when I said something the other day about going to the bank to deposit a check. She couldn’t believe I didn’t have the app to deposit by taking a pic.
It seems unsafe that if someone stole your phone they could get into your banking info. Maybe I’m just super cautious as I’ve had my CC number stolen 4x in the last 2 yrs 🤷🏻♀️
ETA: I do the deposit at the atm and not in the building, if that makes me less of a dinosaur 🤣

My apps are protected by biometrics, and so is my phone. I've never had my bank information stolen or compromised and I've had the apps on my phone for as long as they've been available to me.

Yes. We bank with NFCU, and there are only physical locations in high military areas, which we no longer are. There is some other credit union they partner with that I have to go to if I need to deposit cash, but the closest one of those is still 30 min away. So yes, I do all my banking on my phone.
You need a password or fingerprint to log in.
I also track my kids' accts at capital one from the phone ap
Yes, I haven’t deposited a check at a physical bank in some number of years.
My credit cards aren’t through my bank, and I don’t have their apps, and I also have my credit cards numbers stolen/had credit card fraud relatively regularly. I think that’s just part of modern life, and luckily the credit card companies have gotten good at catching fraud and making customers whole.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

This exactly.
I am always shocked if I hear about someone needing to go to the bank for check deposits!

I don’t have the apps, but also haven’t felt the need. I might need to deposit a check once or twice a year, and I do it when I stop by the atm for cash.

I have banking apps on my phone for saving and checking accounts, no saved passwords. I have to log in each time I open them with either biometrics or a password. I deposit checks weekly, so it's nice to be able to do mobile deposit. I feel far more comfortable depositing via app than an atm. I don't have any credit card apps and don't like saving any credit card numbers in my phone.
I have 2 banking apps but I still go into the bank to deposit checks. Last year the ATM shut down in the middle of my transaction and ate my checks without completing the deposit not once but twice! The second time the bank had no proof that the machine had eaten all of my checks. Luckily I was able to get the checks reissued by the vendor. That's when I learned that the ATMs are handled by some third party and the bank will not reconcile the checks in the ATM because they just don't care. Imagine if it had been a cash deposit, I would've been totally out my money.
Since then, I go inside almost once a week to make deposits. I have 2 business accounts. Besides the ATM issue, I also can not transfer money between the two accounts online even though they are at the same bank. I would have to write myself a check from one account to the other so I always go in to do the transfer to avoid writing the checks to myself.
I have two banking apps that I use regularly. Canada is ahead of the US in this, but we can send money from person to person securely through our banking apps. Similar to Venmo, but not a third party just bank to bank.
I refuse to do deposits (cash or cheque) at an atm. There are so many stories of people not getting the correct deposits and taking a ridiculous amount of time sorting it out. Cheques are deposited through the app. Cash will either get used up eventually or I make a quick stop at a bank to deposit it in person. It's extremely rare I have so much cash I want to deposit it, though.

Yes. My main bank is USAA which only has 1 physical location in TX. My other bank is capital one which does have physical locations now, but used to have another name which was exclusively only online.
So anyway, my point is that essentially both of my banks have been online only since I began banking about 20 years ago and I have never had a problem related to online/app usage.

There’s a limit on how large checks can be for our credit union’s mobile deposit. So I only go in to a branch on very rare occasions. I love mobile deposit
I have one bank and one credit card app on my phone. They require passwords or face ID to get into them, as does the phone itself. An advanced level hacker would be able to get into it, but that’s a risk with any technology. Of course your passwords for these apps (and any financial website) should never be the same as any of your other passwords. And if your phone is lost or stolen, you can completely disable it remotely so no one can use it at all.
Yes, I use apps for both of our banks. Checking transactions often (sometimes daily) has actually helped me identify fraud much earlier, report it, and get the bank to refund those transactions. My bank is pretty good at identifying fraud, and I’ve still been able to spot it earlier….and my bank makes reporting fraud on the app super-easy.
I do but I’ve done a lot of in-person banking when my parents both died. I guess I could do it online but the process is so quick in person and I’ve had large checks to deal with.
If your bank is only online, how do you deposit large checks? I have accounts at four different banks and their mobile deposits limits are all pretty low. For example, I sold my dad’s car for around $18,000 and they would only issue a check.

My bank limit is $25,000 daily for checks. My pay checks are direct deposited so don’t have to worry about a daily limit regularly. If you do have a check larger then that you can call to have your limit increased temporarily. Checks can also be mailed to USAA if wire transfer isn’t an option.

Yup, also protected by biometrics and passwords. So many physical banks have closed in England so it make sense. I also haven't used a cheque in this country in years and years, so that helps.
Yes, I have my checking account and my credit card apps on my phone, and do all my banking through those. They both use two-step authentication so I think it would be really hard to break in before I put a freeze on my accounts.

Mobile check deposit is the best thing to ever happened for me when it comes to banking. I’d carry around checks forever because ATMs for my bank weren’t convenient for me.
DD and I share a bank account and I added it to my phone when she started getting paychecks from her part time job that needed to be deposited. She also has the app and uses it to track her banking and spending.
We have LastPass for our password vault and change passwords on all apps and accounts whenever anything is (or would be) compromised. It’s such a pain but recommended. If someone lost their phone, we would change passwords. For ordinary access it requires double passwords with biometrics, so it’s not that easy to get into the bank app. At least not easier than however hackers hack.

I work at a bank and also live where we no longer have a physical presence. But even when we did, I've only ever brought a check in for deposit once. And that was only because it was over the limit at the time (wouldn't be now, mobile deposit was brand new at the time). Honestly, mobile deposit is better than ATM in terms of errors.
Your account on an app should be safe if you have it locked. Lock both your phone and the app with biometrics and you should be good. The sooner you can call or get on the site on another device, the sooner it can also be locked down and password updated.
