First Lady Jill Biden unveiled a reimagined White House public tour that will engage visitors' senses to teach them about the mansion's history and the events that happened there.
Why it matters: New displays provide written details about the rooms and the history that happened there — in addition to encouraging visitors to touch, see and hear, AP reports.
New to the tour is the Diplomatic Reception Room, which had been off-limits.
This ground-floor room is where President Franklin D. Roosevelt recorded his Fireside Chats. Snippets of some of those conversations will now play.
Tourists can go into several other ground-floor rooms that previously were cordoned off at the doorway: the library, the China Room and the Vermeil Room (which has portraits of former first ladies Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Lady Bird Johnson).
There's also greater access to the East Room and State Dining Room, and the Red, Blue and Green Rooms, all located on the floor above, known as the State Floor.
Touring the white house is on my bucket list. What's holding me back is the plane ride from WA state where I live; I hate flying because the change in air pressure is really physically painful for me and it's awful for the environment.

PDQ due to identifying details.
Despite being a city person who loves travel, city vacations, and my profession as an Architect, I’ve never had a huge desire to go to DC and I’ve never been. The only time I’ve come close was my 8th grade NY/DC class trip I wanted to go on, but my family couldn’t afford it. I’ve been to NYC and other places on the East Coast. From an Architectural standpoint, I tend to love cities that have buildings from a lot of different time periods more than ones that were really planned out and developed at once in a similar Architectural style, although I can appreciate the beauty and cohesiveness of it. I had to study the urban planning and buildings of DC at University so I’m familiar with it.
Anyways, all that to say, I think *WHEN* Kamala is living it the White House it will finally be time for me to plan a vacation to DC and check that city off my bucket list!
@@ The White House tour is so cool. I used to take students when we did our DC trip but we refused to go in the Trump years then Covid and haven’t been back. I look forward to taking them this year!
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
