Do you think those assholes who scream at cashiers feel better when they are done?
This comes from me finally telling the asshole guy screaming at the cashier this AM at the gas station to just leave. The poor girl behind the register was almost in tears and I walked around (probably against the rules of the store but I don't care) and gave her a hug. She was just shaking he was screaming so loud at her.
Ugh that's awful. What could be so important at a gas station? Good for you for telling him to leave and giving her a hug - she will never forget that.
I'm 4 days out from a marathon and my cleaning lady just showed up with her sick kid in tow. I'm usually at the office on Wednesdays so she must have shit a brick when I came out of my home office. I normally wouldn't care, but OMG, bad timing. Stay away from me, kid.
‘Tis never raining again. And it’s hot. The forecast is calling for 78* on Halloween. We’ve had 6” of SNOW before.
I hate it!
I feel this. It had been so delightfully cool the last couple of weeks and suddenly it's back in the upper 70s. Tomorrow it's supposed to cool off to more seasonally appropriate temps, but it looks like the 70s are expected to return next week. Now, snow on Halloween isn't something we've seen since I was a kid, but I'd much prefer that. Hell, the days can be hot, but I like my overnight lows in the 40s or less - I sleep SO GOOD when my bedroom is cold.
I’m in my feelings about two of my friends doing something without me and the details are not worth posting lol but they’re the same friends who “stole” (joke) my Harris inauguration trip. I need to just get over it because we have brunch with the larger group on Sunday and I need to keep my face chill while they gush about the trip.
I am just getting over a cold sore and now am getting a new one right next to it. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow because forever I've gotten a couple cold sores per year, but for the past several months they're practically non-stop. It's not ok! They hurt, they're ugly, and they mean I can't share food/water with L or give him kisses, which is the worst part. If anyone has been in a similar situation and made them stop, I'll happily take suggestions.
My daughter takes an oral medication when she gets a break out. Ask your doctor about that.

tennisgal1confused1 thanks for the suggestion - I took pills that I had leftover from last time for one of these times, have used my prescription cream for the others. It helps, but it's still a process of a couple weeks from first tingle to being fully healed.
No official announcement until tonight but my kid made the JV-A basketball team and I am so excited for her to find out. I won't spoil it so they all find out together. Her closest friends made it too.
There is a two-day meeting in two weeks, Oct 31-Nov 1 in Philly. I was able to get a tentative agenda, and my part isn’t until Friday. So far, of the half dozen of so of us involved, most people are going to call in (because young kids, Halloween). I have to get up at 5:30 and leave by 6am to make it. I really, really don’t want to.
I asked my boss and volunteered to not go because of tight budget times. He said “I think we can find the money.”
Dude… read between the lines. Ain’t no one want to make a one day trip to Philly.
This week is killing me. I’m on call for federal jury duty and the not knowing what I’m doing the next day until 6 pm is not it. So far I haven’t been called in but I’m only halfway there. I assume at this point I won’t get called in until the last day and then that will be cutting it close to a non refundable vacation. This is stressful!
One of my work friends that has become a real life friend just stopped by my office and while we were chatting and lamenting how busy our kids are making us and mentioned a local meal service that has the meals prepared and we basically just heat and eat (versus actually cooking with something like Hello Fresh) and I think it will make a nice difference on our super busy weeks! And they have individual meals and family size pans and the cost is totally reasonable! And it's run by local folks so I love the idea of keeping our money local with meals because that's something we try to do regularly. I checked out the menu options for next week and they have some great options so I think we're going to give it a try.

Oh wow, I've been summoned for 12/2 - 1/3, with instructions to call on Monday nights for the following week. Glad I don't have to call every day! That would be hard.

This is a presentation week for our kids at their online school and yesterday and tomorrow we get to sit in on their classes and see what they’ve been doing. It’s really cool.
In yesterday’s session, K led his breakout session and another parent in the group broke in to tell H and me what a natural leader K is and how much he’s enjoying sitting in these particular sessions because of how he engages. (K was also selected by his peers to be the class representative in some of the fun things they plan throughout the year.)
K would never have felt confident enough to do these things in his old school and I’m so happy we have been able to make this shift for both kids. N is also showing huge strides in leadership and independence. It’s been really transformative for us as a family to move from so much anxiety and stress surrounding school to them genuinely looking forward to it.

My H used to get cold sores frequently. He finally got on Valtrex and it has helped a lot. ETA: I'm pretty sure he takes it daily.

rubytue that doesn't even make sense. TOT here ends at 8pm. Our kids still keep their normal bedtimes when Halloween is a weeknight. I think you should get to call in though;)
A peanut allergy update for Little Kid. I know there are several parents with kids doing OIT, or considering OIT, figure this might be helpful. Little Kid's annual appointment was a few weeks ago. We are in year 3? 3.5? I've lost track, of OIT and at 1.5 teaspoons of peanut/peanut powder a day. Her reactivity numbers have gone WAY down and there's a real possibility that if we get them down to 0 (currently at like .2) that we can leave the epipen and paranoia behind! If we get to that point she won't need to eat peanuts daily (but will still need to maintain some in her diet, just not every day). She has really gotten sick of the peanuts though and we had to try a bunch of different ways to get her to eat it, but have just gone right back to putting it in applesauce. I feed it to her, even though she's 6, because it's the only way to guarantee she eats it anymore. I do goofy things like here comes the airplane and it amuses her enough she doesn't argue about having to eat it. If you're contemplating OIT, even if she never gets those numbers to 0 the peace of mind that comes with knowing a reaction is so unlikely is worth it. If you're in the thick of OIT, keep chugging along! It's so worth it.
That's wonderful!!!! I'm so happy for you.
We started OIT for DD2 in April and we just reached maintenance this month! I'm in shock at how well it went (no reactions other than the first appt), and how quickly. It felt like such a huge commitment before we did it, but then it went by faster than I expected. And we even stalled a month over the summer due to our vacation and our drs. She went from 10 mg of cashew flour to 500 mg, which is like 3/4 teaspoon and equivalent to 2 whole cashews. I'm in shock and also agree: OIT is lifechanging. Even if we never make it to free eating, the peace of mind I have now was worth it.
I just got an email that dd has had too many absences in 7th period (foods, a basic cooking class) and is danger of having to complete seat time.
She has 3 advanced academic classes, followed by lunch, then another advanced class. All of her electives are at the end of the day.
She has braces and wears contacts. Medical appointments have to happen and we bring in a Dr note for each one. How does it make more sense to schedule appointments during core academic classes? WTF kind of lunacy is this? She was also sick (active vomiting) for a few days and missed 3 full days of school, apparently I should have just sent her? School doesn’t end until 4, I cannot get her to her appointments without missing at least a small amount of school.
I’m so irritated. This shit where the rules are not based on actual logic and don’t allow for a human to apply any make me so frustrated with public schools here.
underwaterrhymes, that is so awesome for your boys. I am glad they are flourishing in online school. I work at an online school and switching to that environment is really life changing for some kids.

I don't know what our middle school principal is thinking (and she's not well liked), but she actually put in one of her weekly newsletters that it was totally fine to send kids who just didn't feel 100% so they didn't miss school. And that "usually" they perk up around friends.
And then we went to back to school night and the teachers are all telling us to please not send in sick kids.

When school budgets are tied to attendance we get crap like this and the perfect attendance prizes etc.

That’s so great! We love all of the teachers and administrators. It’s such an inclusive environment and I’m so happy that something like this is available. Kudos to you for doing what you do!
My boss was in the military. I accidentally cursed during a meeting with him today and said "oh, sorry, but you were in the service, so you probably don't mind."
He sort of laughed. And it is true that I've never heard more cursing than I have from folks in the military.
But also, why did I not just STFU and move on?
Sigh. My mouth works faster than my brain too often.

Hahaha, omg, me too. My dog passed away last week and in my grief I bought a bunch of memorial stuff off of Etsy. I went to pick up the sketches I had printed at Walgreens and the man said "oh, did you have the ones with the dog? They are so cute...." and I blurted out "SHE DIED." And he was like oh.... I'm so sorry... I was going to say I had a hard time formatting it. L.O.L. I'm like... why am I like this?

Every once in a while there is an asshole judge who doesn't care, but if you do get called in, bring in your confirmations, if you have something booked within a certain time frame, they will either dismiss you, or allow you to reschedule your jury duty for a date within the next 6 months.
You can also be blunt and when they ask you if you can be impartial, you can answer that no, you are going to wrap this thing up as fast as possible to go on your nonrefundable vacation

Thanks!! I’m sure it will all work out but the waiting is awful! I’m too much of a planner for this. And yes I will use your last point for sure if needed, lol!!
