k3am - I totally get it. The math homework that had DD2 melting down was like maybe 3 problems that should have taken 5 mins, but since she didn’t immediately understand it, she just couldn’t calm down and really focus. There’s also the meds-wore-off/ kept-self-together-all-day factor that we deal with. But a couple of times I just let the teacher know that, while we completed the assignment, there were tears/screams/borderline bloodshed… and she checks in with DD2 and try to chat when there is time.
The teacher might have some ideas about how to help your DD if she’s just looking at things differently. Education is not my area of expertise, so even though I can explain math, her teacher has better ways to reach her and help it make sense.
For an assignment like your DD has - the map example - it might work to trace all of the maps onto clear sheets and overlay them onto a blank map? But I know that’s just an example…
mae0111, I gave her the low tech way of doing it, printing out multiple copies of the map, compiling them, then adding them all to one. Hated it.
The teacher said in BTS that he doesn't make individual accommodations for homework. It's turned in or not. The accommodation that he *does* make is that any assignment can be turned in at any time. Didn't have time to get to it? It's marked missing and you have until the end of semester to get it turned in and you'll get full credit for it. So she just needs to.. do it. And do it on time because he'll assign something later in the week, and then it all snowballs. It will be good for her. If we survive. But man, I wish he'd cut it in half.

I bet dollars to donuts he’s getting complaints from other parents that there’s not enough homework. Ask me how I know this.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

My DS' THIRD GRADE teacher sent home a permission slip to sign if you want your kid sent home with extra homework. I'm sure some parents were requesting it. Hell fucking no do I want extra work for my kid! It's freaking third grade!
Job search update: the company let me know that the highest they would consider is $35k under the high end of their range, but they were hoping to pay less. They’re very much not in line with market.
Their high range was already way less than I was making before, so it was any easy decision to pull myself off their candidate list.
