So I have two big holiday Lego sets I got for myself b/c I wanted something "fun" and also thought the kids would enjoy doing them with me/playing with them, but I haven't built either one yet!! I had visions of slowly building over Christmas break with a cup of cocoa and snow falling outside, but in reality we were really busy. And, as it got closer to the end of the season, they were easier to store in the box. Which brings me to my question! If you have holiday Lego sets, like a Christmas village type thing, do you assemble/disassemble each year and put in box? Or leave assembled and put up like a decoration?? If you leave assembled, how does this work without pieces falling off all over and inevitably seems to happen with DS's sets?

We have a couple holiday sets and will usually disassemble after the holidays to store in box. It is definitely a hassle, my kids enjoy building them with me as decoration but I’m on my own for the takedown and it’s way less fun. I store the pieces by color in Ziplocs after disassembly because it makes it easier to rebuild the following year.
We have the Home Alone house, bought it for the kids but I happily built 99% of it myself. I pack it away in the box assembled, I would never re-assemble it if I took it apart. It's part of the decorations, I actually have a few small parts to finish this year so you could do that - work on it little by little each year instead of all at once.

I have gingerbread house and alpine lodge.
We disassemble and rebuild every year. We also add a new holiday set each year.
We have several small Christmas brickheadz that we take apart every year. I make the kids build them when they're being whiny. They are incorporated into our decorations once assembled

There are a few we disassemble every year, and a few we leave together. Our home alone house is up all the time. It was a beast to put together, so it lives on the mantle.

We only have the Santa one with the sleigh and reindeer. We keep it assembled. There is usually minor re-assembly involved after being in storage, but nothing major.

We also have the Home Alone house we got 2 years ago. After the first year, I took it apart and put it in the box with the intention of building it each Christmas. Last year, I tried to put it together and it was a beast since the pieces weren't in the original bags and easy to find. So once we got it together, we left it and it lives on the shelf at the top of H's closet under a pillowcase lol. It will come down after Thanksgiving as a decoration and for the kids to play with.
I have a collection of small Lego Santas and take them apart re-build them every year. They are stored in a plastic bin, with each set in a plastic bag with their instructions. It's a really fun chilly day activity leading up to Christmas! My set grows every few years. I don't always buy whatever new Santa or mini Christmas themed set comes out (we may have a snowman?), but every few years I think to grab another when I see one for $20 or less. They are all small enough that they could be placed on a shelf of mantle. A really fun tradition! DS usually takes them apart for me as we put away our Christmas decorations.
I take them apart and put them back together. My Christmas ones are relatively small, but with all my sets I take them apart I following the instructions in reverse order so that I can put the pieces into numbered bags bags and assemble them again. I have a couple that are a lot bigger than my Christmas ones that I've assembled several times.
we try to keep them assembled but it's pretty tough for my kids to put random pieces back on so my husband has to do that part. My kids need to follow the step by step from the beginning so they usually focus on the ones that need totally rebuilt and the brand new set that we pull out at thanksgiving
