I have in my Walmart cart for pickup this weekend - - A mixed pack of Skittles and Starbursts (I prefer the fruity or sour candy) - Mixed pack of Twizzlers, gummy bears, and Jolly Ranch lollipops (see above lol) - A mixed pack of Hershey miniatures - Reeses, Almond Joy, Kit Kat, Milk Duds, etc. - Plus, I usually give away any candy that DS already received at our town Halloween parade or his various school parties that he doesn't like
We just place a table in front of our porch since we're out with DS anyway.
This year I think we grabbed the assorted nerds options and sour patch kids. I won’t eat either but my kid likes them.
I used to get pixie stick and the sour patch /Swedish fish combo and gold back some of the Swedish fish for late arrivals since I’d rather be left with that.
We anticipate 180ish trick or treaters
(I tell my kids to dump in any candy they don’t like into empty bowls we find along the way or our give away when they get home.
Whatever bag includes Almond Joys and then I pick them out to save for myself. Controversial, I know.
LOL I do this with peanut M&Ms.
We do 2 big bowls, regular and teal for allergies. The regular we fill with the Costco fun size chocolate mix which has most of the candy I like (Hersheys, Milky Way, Twix, etc) and then we throw dum dums, smarties and a bunch of toys in the other bucket. This year I got slap bracelets and stretchy toys. We don't get a ton of kids, so we usually have candy leftover, which is why I buy the stuff I like.
Am I the only one that doesn't like full size candy bars? It is too much for my kids. And after Covid a lot of houses in our area give out bags prefilled with a bunch of candy (like treat bags) and I hate it. I'd rather they just pick a few things they like and keep them fun size. We ended up donating, posting on Buy Nothing, or throwing away a lot of candy after Halloween.
Not a fan of the full size bars over here either. They get SO MUCH CANDY that he never eats all of it and especially the full size things. I feel bad that people waste their money. He's allergic to most of them anyway and a lot of times people will just toss one in his bag without asking first, and he feels bad digging it out and handing it back, so he just thanks them and moves on. Even if he gets something he can eat, it usually goes uneaten.
One time years ago H only got nut option candy and we gave some poor girl a banana instead.
Just FYI if you're trying to include options for nut allergies, most chocolate candy says "may contain" nuts so many kids with nut allergies can't have it even if nuts aren't an ingredient.

In years past, I'd buy the mixed bag of stuff I didn't like (but not crappy candy like Necco wafers) so that whatever was left I wasn't tempted to eat.
Last year my kids convinced me to buy some sort of sour chew somethings. Not sour patch kids, but the kids who saw what I had were excited.
This year I'll do that if I have to go out with them, and just leave a bucket, but if not, I'll buy full size bars to hand out. We're also in the back of our neighborhood, and I want to make it worth their while if kids come back here.

I usually get a bag of chocolate something and a bag of fruity/gummy candy.
I like the “fun” size candy because it’s more like going to a pot luck or buffet, rather than ordering an entire. Plus, you can eat 3 full size candy bars worth of tiny candy and feel better about it psychologically.
I bought a bag of mixed fun size candy bars this year. I made sure it’s all stuff we like for left over purposes. We generally don’t even hand out candy because the few years we have we have only gotten 1 or 2 kids. I was feeling festive this year though so we did some outdoor decor and bought a bag of candy.

Whenever we hit a house with an empty bowl. my kids ross in any candy they don’t like. Lightens their bag and the next kid can have something.
I switched to full size bars a while ago. Dh gives out giant handfuls of fun size whereas we discovered that kids will only take 1 of a full size so the cost is the same. So why not have some fun We set up a table on our front porch since we have yappy dogs and dh has the kids pick out which candy they want. I try to do a mix of chocolate & chewy/gummy options. Weirdly, plain Hershey bars tend to be the most popular. Hersheys with almonds don’t get touched.
My kids pick out what to have out in our bowl at the end of the driveway near the sidewalk. We're either not home or their dad is home being his anti-social self and refuses to participate in opening the door to kids. We don't get too many kids because we're just outside the main area with the closer concentration of houses.
Last year they put out those small packs of Haribo variety gummies. This year DS bought a bag of fun sized Reeses at Walmart the other day to give out but then earlier this week he was panicking about "the kids with allergies can't have those! We can't give those out." I had DD take the bag of Reeses to her Girl Scout event today and we'll go candy shopping again tomorrow because DS cares deeply about the allergy kids. (neither of my kids have food allergies)
My office hands out the fun sized Hershey's Fangs (cookies and cream bar shaped like teeth fangs) because we're a dental office. I don't know if parents ever make that connection. The staff gave out 360 pieces at an event last night and I have to buy more this weekend for a different event next week. I had expected there to be some leftover from last night but apparently not.

I do little gift bags for 5 little neighborhood kids who make me laugh often (I put in a Halloween themed bottled water, small soft drink, Halloween themed Goldfish crackers, a twisty straw, Halloween sticky notes, and candy). Everyone else gets to pull from my cauldron PB pumpkins, full size candy bars, sour gummies, Nerds, and Halloween Rice Krispy Treats). We have Halloween packaged bottled waters on a table that go quick too.

Too much candy for my kids, just enough candy for the adults. 👌

I usually get a Hershey's mix bag that includes Reese's pumpkins, as well as a Mars mix bag that includes Twix. I usually get a lot more than I think I'll need b/c H and I usually employ the "one for you, one for me" method.
My H is in charge of candy in our house and this year he picked a Costco bag of assorted chocolates and he did 2 bags (18 individuals each) of Halloween themed puffed cheese curls.
I think I inspired the salty snack treats. I like them more than candy, lol. And he figured if we had leftovers, they’d go in our snack cupboard and get eaten with lunches & pretty easily.
We do fun size…a mix of gummy/fruity candy and chocolate. Plus a container of non edible goodies like stickers, stamps, play dough, bubbles, etc.
Right now we leave our bucket on the porch because we both like to take the kids around. Once they are older, and we are actually there to hand out, I think we will move to full size bars.
This year we’re doing gummy bears (from Costco), capri sun juice pouches and an assortment of twizzlers and lollipops. This is our first Halloween in this neighbourhood, so not sure how many kids we’ll get.
I decided to do full sized bars this year because we don’t get many trick or treaters usually much to my disappointment (I go all out with decorating, but our street is dark with the houses far back and we are one block from a very very popular treat to TOT). Then I panicked realizing word may travel about the full sized bars and since we are so close to the main truck or treat street, so now I have 90 full sized bars in my house.
The bowl on our porch will be serving fun halloween-flavor kitkats this year. If someone wants to take three to get all the flavors, that's fine since our street is pretty quiet. The "cool roads" are a few blocks over and we usually don't end up in the little kids' loop. Usually our candy disappears overnight when college students are stumbling home from their parties.
