macmars45 I hope you are a candidate and that it is successful for you. An ablation has been one of the greatest gifts I gave myself. Had mine in 2015 and no periods since then. Adios tampons and pads!
I'm so annoyed that when I went for my annual with my PCP last week and asked if there was anything to do about my heavy bleeding (without going back on BC), she said no and I just have to live with it. Why didn't she bring this up?? Do I need to talk to a GYN?
My tubes are already removed so I just want it all to stop!
Ugh, yes I would talk to your gynecologist. My ablation was very uneventful and I went home still loopy from meds and slept 3 hours and took it easy the rest of the day and back to normal activities the next day with mild aches and spotting. Aches went away after 2 or 3 days and spotting lasted a few weeks.
My mom showed up to DD's competition today. It's open to the public, but it's super weird that she didn't call or text that she was coming, and just showed up.
She also planned a dinner yesterday for DDs birthday which was earlier this week. She never asked if we wanted to celebrate with them, and she coordinated it all directly with DD. She and my dad didn't get out of the car when they picked DD up or when they dropped her off. I found out today that she had also invited my brother. So it was just me, H and DS that weren't invited. We always do a family birthday dinner. I was definitely behind on scheduling it bc October is hectic, but it's bizarre that she didn't just ask what our plans were.
She never says anything directly so I have no idea what she is thinking. She is exhausting to deal with.
I was at a meeting where I volunteer & chatting with another volunteer who I have chatted with 1-2 times before. He hit on me hard. We were talking about a wedding he was attending and I got invited as his date. “You would love going to this wedding with me.” He even pressed his business card into my hand (not in a creepy way). I gave it back with a “no, thank you” and let him know I was married. He blinked and gingerly took the card I was handing him back. He wasn’t bothered and the convo still ended well. That’s what you get for wearing comfortable shoes and a fall sweater, I suppose.
Missouri has abortion on the ballot and things are getting *really* unhinged now that early voting has started. I was at Target this morning and a woman was legit screaming into her phone in the dollar spot about medically indicated D&Cs vs elective abortions. Ma'am, I just need a Fortnite gift card. Then, I was at a fundraising dinner last night at a table with four couples I didn't know and they brought it up and there were several fraught moments where I had no idea what side we were all on. (All pro choice, thankfully; they were doctors and then told truly horrific stories.) We have a school event with parents we don't know tomorrow and I spent an unhealthy amount of time googling the host in search of clues where they sit. There is no middle ground here and it's not like debate is fruitful at this point, so it is making talking to strangers under almost any circumstances extra anxiety provoking and there is still so much time to go.

For elections here you're assigned both a polling place and a booth within that polling place. Each booth has a team of poll workers who are chosen sort of similar to jury duty in the US, no one wants to get picked, but you have to do it if you are or you get fined. For some reason our election this weekend is both Sat and Sun, which we had during Covid to reduce crowds but haven't had since, but it turns out that thank god we do because this morning 4 out of 5 of my election workers still hadn't showed up 2.5 hours after polls opened! The 1 guy who'd been there since 7 was NOT amused, and they still hadn't sorted it out yet, so I went home. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little easier! Voting is also obligatory here, so on top of wanting to do my civic duty I don't want to have to pay my own fine.

I broke a tooth a few days ago. Apparently my dental insurance doesn’t cover crowns. So that was a huge bill. My mouth hurts and I feel super anxious that I’m going to do something wrong and the temporary crown will fall out.
But in happier news, my puppy is getting really good at walking on a leash. He didn’t pull much at all today- only if we walked past a house with barking dogs. Or at the guy doing archery in his front yard. My dog did not like that at allllllll
I hosted another whisky bottle share yesterday and it was a big success. We had 18 people come, a few who were newbies to it, so thinking our next one should be fabulous (probably in Jan).

I declined Chik-Fil-A nuggets at a family party last night and now that’s Sunday, I am kicking myself!
The party itself was phenomenal! I was a working traffic light and I was able to use my little remote switch to turn into a human game of “Red Light / Green Light” which all the little kids (and some of the sillier adults) loved! I cannot wait to see how the pictures turn out!
I voted yesterday and I’m really glad that is done. DH and MIL both had to stand in line over an hour. I got out on a Saturday morning in around 30 minutes. I think everyone assumed Saturday would be awful so we’re trying to avoid it. But I couldn’t break free from work this past week and I’m traveling next week, so Saturday it was. It worked out well.
I’m done with Halloween. We had two kid events this weekend and we still have the actual day.

We went to Halloween lights at the zoo last night and it was fun. They had a hut where you could get boozy punch and oh my gosh, it was so strong!
We have had the most amazing weather every weekend in October! The trees are at peak or just a bit past so everything is just golden and glowing! We went to breakfast at a cute local coffee shop that had the most gorgeous tree out front.
I definitely want to get a hike in later. My house also desperately needs a deep clean. Seeing if I can get both done.

I went to the Taylor Swift concert last night and I’m exhausted in the best way possible today. I went by myself, which I’m usually a fan of doing, but I made friends there and just had the best night.
Now, I think all 65,000 people who were there are at the airport with me. It’s so chaotic. I’m definitely ready to be home, so I hope my flight is on time. 🤞🏼

Got all of our Halloween stuff either in the house or on its way. Yay!
I have a sore throat today, and I slept like 5 hours, so I’m cranky and going to nap. I think my throat is sore because I just ate too much chocolate yesterday, but who knows!
My parents burn wood as primary heat source. My dad must had had a premonition because in the fall he cut up a lot of fallen trees in the pasture (more than he usually does in spring). He then shattered his pelvis on Memorial Day. I have been up twice to help with what I can moving it to storage and my h went to help split the big ones. They had 80% what they needed and were comfortable with that amount. Today a family member bought a load of firewood for them at the church auction and then another guy helped my mom unload it. I am pmsing and may have ugly cried at that text.

sunshineandpinot, that sucks. Hopefully she’ll cool down. I get being upset, but to be holding so much anger months later is a lot. We all need to give each other grace every now and then, especially long standing friends.
I canvassed for Harris this weekend. People mostly didn't answer the door, which is disheartening. I left literature.
I also managed to convince an Uber eats driver who I ran across while walking between houses to vote early. And I sympathized with a guy who said the constant outreach made him NOT want to vote with a "it's annoying, but just that important" and he said he'd read the stuff I left
I’m exhausted. I spent the day as club “mom” for the beginners at a fencing tournament. Just herding cats, aka young teenagers around and showing them how tournaments worked. It was a lot. And I am reminded what it’s like to be a parent and how tired y’all are all the time. For damn good reason.
If that thread is any indication, people would rather just be pissed and avoid confrontation and/or passively aggressively deal with things than asking outright.

Lucy and I went to National Portfolio Day today. Basically an all art school college fair, with people from lots of art schools nation wide. They do on the spot portfolio reviews. She did great! She’s only a junior, so she didn’t have a ton of work. Some reviewers were a little blunt, but it was mostly encouraging for my girl. She did a session at my Alma mater, and the school where I did my masters. They were throwing out artists to look at and she knew most of them. She’s way more driven than I was at her age. I’m so proud!
sunshineandpinot - it is possible it is less about the party, and more about what the party signifies. Often for milestones or events, we include our “nearest and dearest” so to speak. So it may have been more about a sense that they felt they were closer to you than maybe you feel about them, which can be painful.
I am glad you texted though. Even if the friendship ends, there will be some closure to it.
Today was the first day in about 2 weeks it didn't get up to 80 or near or even past 80. It will be 80 in a day or two...I remember when it would start cooling down by Halloween.

I'm so sick of being hot. I just want to walk outside without sweating.
