Oh and even being worse than reported and nothing happened - he was actually convicted twice and let out with no apparent restrictions. And producers of the show failed to do a background check (or didn’t care about what they saw).

Is it my algorithm? October? Netflix having a serial killer obsession? In the last couple weeks I've watched Menendez, zodiac, and now this (which was excellent). I'm going to need to watch a bunch of cooking shows, aren't I, to balance it all out.

So infuriating the way the woman was treated who tried to report him at the show and then he went on to kill more including a child. Always trust your gut, it's one of our main defenses against men.

I agree - I did read an article in which Anna Kendrick )who also directed!) stated that part/character was fictionalized but was meant to represent all the women who were ignored when they tried to report him. I’m sure it was much harder to see a trend then without the internet/police departments couldn’t see reports from other cities but it’s just wild to me that she had to represent multiple women.

I wish they spent more time on the woman who got away and her testimony, and more about how this guy got away with so much and less about the dating show.

I want to say it's better now with linked databases, and I'm sure it is in large part. But, to be in a database, a victim has to be believed and taken seriously, and that's still a major barrier. How many reports are never filed and followed up on?
"Trust your gut/instinct" is a saying that rankles me because it can easily veer into victim blaming.

So frustrating that his mother could bail him out after what he did to that girl.

Well sure, if it's used afterwards. I'm talking about a defense before anything happens like Anna's character did. It does not appear other victims had those warning signs.
I don't blame people who are victims of crimes because they couldn't stop them from happening. I think we are told "be nice," "you are overreacting," "don't make a scene," or "nice guys should get a chance" and that needs to end. If something feels off, we need no excuse to try to remove ourselves from a situation if we can.
OTOH, this doesn't apply if are a Karen in a Target parking lot who thinks you almost got human trafficked. Or if you think that dad at a park with his kids is a predator. Or you mistake neurodivergence for JC Vance levels of ick. I assume for the sake of conversation, the readers of this forum do not fall into the second group but obviously check your ick for bias.

Yes, I thought it was really well done and I liked that it focused on the women and their stories than on the killer. I read an interview with Anna where she said that was her goal.
I would have liked this to be like a 3-part limited series or something so we could get more info about what happened after he was caught. Or even a little more background into the women.
