I have terrible neck pain when I wake up and am up multiple times a night, tossing and turning because my neck and upper back hurt. I’ve tried a softer pillow and a more firm pillow with a divot and nothing is helping. It’s also been causing headaches. Fuck this part of getting old. Sleep shouldn’t hurt!
Currently am looking at a buckwheat pillow and also scheduling PT, but if you’re like me, what pillow has worked for you? I sleep on both sides and also my back so I’m complicated.

I think there was just a thread about this (like last week? maybe on married life?) and I commiserated because I was waking up with a stiff neck for months after I slept differently when I broke my arm last year, and I tried 6 different pillows and seriously had limited range of motion in my neck before finally going to a doctor.
None of the pillows I've tried have been perfect. I used a cervical neck pillow for a while, but I think that one would only be best if I consistently slept on my back. Right now I'm alternating between the cushion lab pillow (I think I'd rank this my #1) and the purple pillow in tall.
I also did pt and got trigger point injections for my neck, and got a tens machine through insurance to use at home. I do stretches every day now, and the pain is significantly better, but still not gone unfortunately.
OP, what you’re describing sounds very similar to me. I was miserable. I just bought a similar pillow to this and it’s helped a ton - definitely takes some getting used to! I actually got the Hexis Cervical Pillow from Amazon, and am sleeping on the top part/side with the continuous roll.

I have the Coop original pillow on Amazon. Dh and I both love it. If you scoot it all the way under your neck it has great neck support while still giving under your head. You can stuff it more or less as needed.
