1) when DS is even a tiny bit sick, like runny allergy nose, he is a bear to get to school. DD has a sore throat so bad that she didn’t want to eat anything because swallowing hurts. But she wants to go to school so she doesn’t miss her French test and so she can do a basket exchange at field hockey.
2) for Trunk or Treat, we turned DS’s hair green with this stuff you brush in. It looked great. And washed out. But for whatever reason, he and DH decided a wig would be better. DH ordered a wig. I just put it on DS and it’s clearly a ladies wig. It’s a bob. Not a joker wig. It’s also Halloween today so I just explained to him that when you do this stuff, which I always do, you have to follow all the way through. That means you try the thing on the kid, make sure it works, and then do what’s necessary to make it work or make a new plan.
3) I survived chaperoning the 5th graders. School buses are another level of hell.
1 - I presented on a webinar last week that received some great feedback. Yesterday I was invited to facilitate a round table discussion at a conference I'm attending. I've been feeling some big imposter syndrome feelings lately, so these are feeling like big wins to me.
2 - I just got a reminder email about submitting FSA/HRA claims before the end of the year. I hate dealing with this! I really appreciate that my company offers these benefits but it's such a massive pain to sort through all the paperwork and submit all the individual claims to get the money back. Can't insurance just be reasonable up front? Why are there so many hoops? Ugh.
mommyatty, Sounds like my house! The DDs will rally and go to school for anything. Meanwhile if DS coughs once (because asthma...) you'd think he had the black plague and is on death's door. I've said to DH many, many times "He can cough at his desk or he can cough here on the couch. But either way, he's totally fine."
Randoms: I have lost my voice from laryingitis. I had put in for a vacation day tomorrow, so I might end up taking it anyway but as a sick day. I was contemplating coming in for early voting support, but we are fully staffed. I'm glad I didn't agree to host a party for DS with no voice and DH out of town.
Updates: According to DS the 8 boys can't figure out what to do and most of them don't want to trick or treat. Kind of makes sense why they were asking all the parents to host a party if they don't want to trick or treat. So anyway, odds are that DS will end up staying home. Kind of sad, the end of the trick or treating era, but I always assumed they would eventually outgrow it. They really should just break into smaller groups. I asked again why the one party was not happening and DS repeated the same story of they didn't want troublemaker kid, but I am not sure why they can't invite 1 kid. But again, maybe they just aged out. They did ask trouble maker kids parents to host and were told they didn't have enough room for 8 kids. I never thought their house was small from the outside, but maybe it is a problem house for hosting.
mommyatty, DD1 was like your DS for YEARS. At one point last year, she was acting super sick so I thought she had strep (frequent thing for her). The NP at the urgent care told her to take an advil and go to school. Finally, as a 9th grader, she has realized that it's not worth missing her classes/notes to stay home for the sniffles. DD2, however, is going for perfect attendance 2 years in a row (something that her school does not even recognize). I literally can't get her to stay home.
twinmomma, congrats to you on the conference! That's amazing!
Our stupid, stupid cat who we just brought inside but who wants to be an inside/outside cat got into a fight with the feral cat this morning. I went out and yelled at them, which broke up the fight, but he’s wounded. So I’m taking him to the vet unexpectedly this morning. And he bled all over our front porch.

DS is in the middle of being evaluated by a psychologist. I met with the psychologist in a telehealth call and have filled out a bunch of surveys. I had no idea how mentally draining the process would be!
twinmomma repeat after me: I am NOT an imposter! Say as many times as necessary. Congratulations!
I live in a rural mountain area. Bears here are in binge eating mode as they prepare for hibernation. They do really silly things... One tore the locked window off of my minivan last night. He/she didn't climb into the van. I had nothing eatable in the van.
What can I say.....it's Halloween and even the bears want to create inconveniences for me today
I got a txt from Ds at 11pm stating he wanted my opinion on something. He knows I'm asleep. I told him to stop sending potentially worrying txt when he or I can't answer. This morning I find out all he wants to know is what time he should leave fir the airport next week.
Dd still has her cold, but is improving. Hopefully she will be 100% by Saturday because she's going to the Taylor Swift concert.

When we vacation in the mountains, we always see bears, along the strip, at the hotel, off out balcony. Usually on their way to a dumpster. People always complain about not seeing one in the park, and I've almost ran straight into one on the sidewalk. Twice.
dglvrk2, bear and cougar sightings are rampant right now in town or around the outskirts of town. Bears don't tend to hibernate here but they like to come into town and chow down on all the fall decor, trash, etc as the food in the woods is getting scarce as we had our first frost a couple weeks ago. The cougars are following the deer that are in town. I swear the deer really flood town when hunting season starts. I've started seeing 3 or 4 in the mornings near the wetlands by my house.
mommyatty, congrats on surviving the field trip. I can only do field trips now if the bus ride is under an hour otherwise the bus kills me body and I'm no good for anyone.
I got to see DD's level 5 floor routine for the 1st time last night. She normally doesn't work it during her private but the entire floor was empty so she got to run through it twice. Just missing the back pass on her own which is adding a back tuck to her round-off back handspring. She has a short very optional practice tonight (DD requested as they have a meet Saturday) and she is hoping no one really comes so she can have another private lesson without having to pay for it. Most of the girls said they would come 4-6 because it would interfere with ToTing plans.
And the vet heard a heart murmur in our cat. Now, I know logically that a cat who has had a trauma or is freaked out can have a murmur. The vet confirmed that’s likely the issue. But now I have one more thing to worry about at 3:00 am.
My husband is driving me insane in the mornings. He feels the need to do dishes, put away dishes, tidy the entire kitchen and dining area every morning at the exact time that we have three kids trying to get out the door. And then he’s annoyed that the kids are in the kitchen “in his way.” Dude, you are the one in the way here! Breakfast is time sensitive, you cleaning is not. This also applies to telling the kids to do other chores in the morning. Not the time, read the room! They’re already barely making the bus. Tidying up whatever random Halloween stuff is laying around can wait til they come home! I lost my shit this morning and told him to knock it off. So now he’s pissy and I’m pissy that he’s pissy.
DS’s plans fell through. I guess most of the boys don’t want to trick or treat anymore. I get the feeling it ends sooner with boys than girls. If any of the 8 boys got together in smaller groups I didn’t see it.
DD was picked up and dropped off. We get a ton of trick or treaters so I don’t answer the door anymore because it is constant. I put out a bowl of candy. I put the undesirable candy out first like tootsie rolls so no one dumps the whole bowl and then I put out the good stuff.
Anyway it was the most relaxing Halloween that I’ve had in 13 years!

waverly, I bet half the houses that DS went to last night had bowls outside. And I know it wasn't just parents that were out TOTing with their kids, so you weren't alone!

Maybe if it’s a warm year I might sit outside with friends instead of constantly getting up and down but I’m not at that stage of life yet.
I remember having a toddler and a baby trying to trick or treat by myself or with neighbors (DH was traveling) and then coming home to answer the door a million times and then cook dinner. I’ve definitely made changes since those days to make it easier. And of course not having a toddler makes it way easier.
I've done two phone interviews for a position I don't want, in a business line I have no experience in. I can apparently talk the talk, at least, since I'm moving on to in person interviews. Unlike the job that was a perfect fit expertise wise, the commute would be to a new place, and I liked the team but the salary was intolerable, this one has a salary range posted that I would comfortably fit into. It would have me commuting to downtown (literally across the street from 2 of the 3 buildings I worked at in the last 17 years) and comes with sales goals, which I hate. (I *hate* doing cold business development. My last role was beautiful because I did not have to source new business - by the time it got to me, it was a VERY warm lead)
It's really annoying searching for a job while not really wanting a job. >.<
