So ready. We have all our usual stuff, but both kids are under the weather so we are iffy on whether we will make any of it. I need some time off. I’m run down.
So excited for the weekend. Dh is hunting tonight so I get some alone time. I'm going to make soup, maybe on my outside burner, have a fire and a glass of wine and read my book.
Tomorrow, we have tickets to a concert with our all time favorite cover band. They play everything and are so fun and all of our friends are going. My feet, ears, sleep deprivation, and possibly head will pay Sunday, but it's worth it.
In random news, DH has been texting all morning about life insurance. This is very different than the conversation you have when kids are small and you just took out your mortgage, they need care, plus maybe college, not a lot in retirement account, so a large sum. So now figuring out what everyone would still need and what you already have. Not the most fun topic.
The downpour rain held off until about 10 last night so those out trick or treating just had the spitting/misty get everything wet crap. It is 8:30 and still dark-dark outside due to the heavy rain and black clouds. Normally people drive 65-70 during my commute and no one was driving over the speed limit of 55 as there was so much water on the roads. I hydroplaned 4 times on my way to work and that was me actively avoiding the sections I know flood.
DD has her first meet on Saturday. No idea what she will compete or not. I guess if they don't do the skills tonight then they won't compete it tomorrow. She doesn't need a spot per say but does need the coach standing right next to the beam and bars for her dismount and for sure on the floor for her back tumbling pass. I'll be pretty annoyed if we drive the 9o minutes and her cranky coach only lets her vault. Our head coach is judging this meet but it isn't like I can complain to a judge about our coaching during a meet.
I don't think I'm ready. Our weekend is wall to wall chaos leading into the election and work travel for me next week.
Tonight we're hitting up the amusement park one last time before they close for the season with our season passes. Tomorrow the girls are dyeing their hair for the first time. We've been doing colored extension streaks for a couple years now and the phase never ended, so my hairdresser and I agreed on a good plan for them to do real hair dye and take it up a notch. We'll go straight from that multi-hour appointment to a birthday party and then straight from the party to a play performance. On Sunday we will chill out at home and recover. I will pack for my work travel.
librarychica I really love having a school/work day after Halloween, since I can WFH and regroup before we roll into the weekend. This day is sooo much more relaxing than the weekend with all the kids here, for me!
Halloween was a success. Everyone was happy with what they ended up doing and actually went to bed pretty easily because they were so tired. My whole body hurt from running around the neighborhood with the little boys.
This afternoon/evening DD has a softball hitting lesson and DS1 has basketball practice. DD is going to play softball most of the weekend. She had three games scheduled Sunday already with her team on Sunday and then got asked to play three games tomorrow as a guest with the slightly younger team. About an hour away each day in different directions. DH and I haven't decided who is taking her each day yet - he's not feeling well, so we'll see. Tomorrow DS2 has an 8 am soccer game, but my parents said they'll take him, so that's great. Then DS1 has a morning baseball clinic and afternoon soccer game. Sunday DS2 has a morning bday party for a friend and then we have the elementary school fall festival in the afternoon.
This all sounds like a lot, but it's huge that basketball practice, the soccer game, the birthday party, and the festival are all within walking distance of our house. It really makes busy weekends feel more manageable to not just be in the car all the time. My parents are also going to host the little two boys for a sleepover Saturday night. DS3 is soooo excited - for the past couple months he kept making phones out of duplos and "calling" Pop Pop to ask when they could have a sleepover

It's been so dark and rainy every morning, it has made it hard to get out of bed this week. Halloween was odd in our neighborhood. Half the houses were dark which is unusual and there were very few ToT'ers. DS was moving at a snail pace, so we didn't go to all the normal houses we usually do.
Our weekend plans are up in the air, depending on weather and people availability. Beau often mentions that he should spend more time with his mom, so I suggested we go out to dinner tonight. But he hesitated because we're both failing at losing weight and know that weekends can be our downfall going out to eat all the time. Everything seems to revolve around food! It was going to be wet and soupy at our local riding spot even before the forecast changed to rain, but now it's supposed to rain. Everywhere else we ride is getting snow this weekend.
I took today off. We were thinking about going away because there is no school due to PT conferences and Election Day but we decided to stay home because the kids have 3 soccer games. The 3 games are all that we have planned for the weekend. 1 tonight that I am forcing DH to take her because he was out of town and 2 tomorrow at the exact same time and place. So maybe we will both watch a half and then switch games so we both see each kid.
I have laryngitis so I decided to keep the day off to rest.
Speaking of living life to the fullest. Dd has a free ticket to Taylor Swift this weekend with her roommates. She will be outfitted in sparkle purple attire shorts, shirt, tights. Ds just won tickets to a Martinsville NASCAR race Sunday. I assume his attire will be his Raise Hell Praise Dale tshirt.
We think we've got our contractor decision finalized.. It's a little terrifying - that means I've got a LOT of work ahead of me to get everything cleared out. A lot. I forget until we're moving or packing how much crap I have squirreled away in all kinds of hidey holes.
I'm exhausted from trick or treating last night. Wrangling an ever-evolving number of 11-year-olds wore me out! But everyone had fun and seemed to be happy by the end of the night.
I've already been back and forth to school 4 times (4 there and 4 back) with 2 more back-and-forths to go. DD1 got out at noon, then DD2 came home later with 2 friends, then I went back to pick up DD1's friend to come over and hang out. DD2 is expecting one more friend at some point, and then DH or I will take DD2 and all friends back to school for a dance tonight and pick her up later. Super busy, but they're all just chilling on the couch watching a movie now, so I'll take it!
DD2 has 2 soccer games tomorrow and one on Sunday. There is a remote possibility of a 4th soccer game, but it's such a longshot that I'm not even really considering it as part of the weekend. There's also a second tryout for spring soccer, but one of her club coaches puts the teams together, and he said not to bother bringing DD2. It doesn't mean she'll get an awesome placement - it means that he's already decided where he'll put her and nothing will change his mind. I'll shuttle another soccer kid around with us since her parents are away and they've helped us out in the past when we've been away or stuck.
It will be busy, and I hate not having much downtime, but it will hopefully be fun!
The nurse called me to say that she was sending DD1 home with a fever and what she is worried about is appendicitis. She said to let her rest and take her to the ER if she starts to feel worse pain. She’s vomiting. She had an English paper due at 8:00 last night that she set aside time Friday afternoon to finish. Obviously, she wasn’t feeling well and might have to go to the ER, so. I sent her to her English class to explain all of this to her teacher, and that idiot told her that she could not have an extension and her paper is due at 8. She did it, but it’s not great work and I hate the message that her paper is more important than her health and WHAT THE FUCK, LADY?! This is the final straw in a long list of grievances about this class and this teacher that I’ve been sitting on, but I made an appointment to talk to the principal next week.
So this weekend, hopefully, we’re not in the hospital and we get some time to chill.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
erbear, oh HELL NO. I know you’re in a different position because you’re fellow faculty, but I would have sent a fiery email, copying everyone under the sun, explaining the Friends’ basic tenets and reminding her that her ego shouldn’t overrule the health of a child. That part of her job is to find and honor the spark of God in everyone, and maybe she should start with herself.

And I hope your DD is okay.
I did that, but I didn't send it. I also don't trust this witch not to take out her frustration with me on my kid so I am trying to tread lightly.
Thank you. She seems ok this morning, though her side is still bothering her. It's hard to tell how much it actually hurts.
