Long story short, I'm investigating some options for DD's 16th bday. Just options. Not sure yet what she will want to do. She loves theater, but the things playing on/around her bday in our area just don't seem to work. HP might be an option but she's really not that into HP generally.
Yes, the Cursed Child. Just in posting this and looking it up again I am realizing I do not think this is a good choice for her at all. She read the first book but she was t into it. I didn’t even realize it was a totally different story. And I didn’t realize that it was a play and not a musical. Oops.

My teens saw the show in NYC last year on school friend trip. They loved the set/special effects but the story was meh, and we've read most of the HP books.
The show is great - amazing effects and staging. I saw it in previews in London originally and it was one of my favorite theater experiences ever (they hadn’t released the book yet so it was a theater if extreme Harry Potter nerds literally gasping and sobbing and loving everything together. It was incredible). I don’t recommend reading it - reading a play instead of seeing it performed is never very good.
They have truncated the show so it’s only one night instead of two now so I can’t speak to the new version. I think it’s still a neat watch if you haven’t read the books, but if you haven’t seen the movies/know the story I would skip it

We just saw it this weekend. The set and stage magic was pretty amazing. I agree that the first couple scenes were very bad (I think that is where they mostly condensed the play from two to one).

I really want to go see it! How scary was it? We would have to take the kids and my littlest is 6. Too scary for a 6 year old?

noodleoo, I think we live near each other. A high school near us is currently performing this show. It's not too scary for a 6-year-old and MUCH easier than NYC if you are interested. I thought it was very well done. They just added a few more shows, too!
