Just got back from voting, took the whole fam. I thought we would have to stand in line for a while, but nope. No line, in and out in 5 minutes. I explained to my son what bonds were and how they worked, so that was a cool teachable moment.
I got a little choked up to vote for Kamala, just as I did for Hillary in 2016. I am hoping hoping hoping for a different result this time.
The classmates in my class are making me crazy. They're complaining that there aren't enough instructions, there are plenty of instructions, they just aren't reading them. They complain that the work is repetitive, welcome to life and work. They complain that it takes too long, welcome to grad school, we're expected to do 8-12 hours of homework a week. They are trying to form a group to go to the dean about this, good luck I guess.
FYI - those are the kinds of students those of us who work in higher ed complain about on our message boards LOL
You now understand the annoyance and are welcome to join in on our next thread!!
Brought the kids with me to vote this morning (and also so my middle schooler could visit his old teacher). My 8yo accidentally doodled on the margins of my vote and I was worried it wouldn't be counted, so I requested a new ballot. lol Whoops.
As so many of us have, I've felt the need for some comfort so I instructed my smart speaker to play some Peter, Paul, and Mary - they make me think of my Dad. Anyway, their version of "If I Had a Hammer" came up and I damn-near screamed along with the:
It's the hammer of justice It's the bell of freedom It's the song about love between my brothers and my sisters All over this land
I was reading about the the history of the White House with my 4th grade reading group yesterday. One of them told me trump owns the White House. No kid, he doesn't. We aren't allowed to talk politics at school with the kids, thankfully. I'm in a red city so it would be futile and end with a whole bunch of pissed off parents if I dared to steer their kids 'wrong'. Also, most of my co-workers vote R straight down the ballot so....
Anyways, hoping for a Harris/Walz landslide today. And for a whole bunch of initiatives to not pass in WA state.

Already three robocalls this morning to my Gram’s home phone from the RNC, but I’m pretty sure she didn’t vote in the Primary and GA is an open Primary state so why is the RNC calling?
I am having a Screwdriver for brunch and ordering Thai for lunch. Stress Eaters, Party of one!

I've been trying to get her into the shower since 6:15a -- 1h, 45m. Deep breaths and she'll get there when she gets there. School is aware of the situation. Work is aware of the situation.
DS has remote learning today, so I took him with me to vote. I was #158 at my polling place. DH can’t vote and I have been taking DS to me to vote since he was a baby. We stopped at a cafe after for coffee/snacks. I hope this beautiful morning turns into a great night with the election results 💙

I'm working as an election judge today. We have had over 600 people cast votes so far today, which sounds like is above average - machines usually get around 300 and I've already had over 200 at mine. I am helping scan ballots so it's been busy. My sciatica is already acting up so I am not super excited about doing this for another 7.5 hours, but I am glad I am here and it's definitely going by quickly.
My polling place is all old people and they love to go first thing in the AM and then stand around and chit-chat, so I'm going around 2 this afternoon.
After I take my meds in the AM, I have a good 3-hour window of feeling halfway decent. A couple of weeks ago I bought an at-home nail gel kit from amazon, but haven't felt well enough to sit down and do it. I did this AM and OMG I'm in love. It is so quick and easy and my nails look amazing. Now we just have to see how long it lasts.
My daughter (15) is going to a concert downtown tomorrow night. The only way I agreed to let her go was if we stayed in the area, but we're talking probably 6 hours between dropping them off and picking them up. I'm already a little nervous about it but the election on top of it is freaking me out...I'm concerned about what if they call it while she's there? Kinda freaking out here.

I hope you at least corrected this. It's not at all political to say that no person, not even the former President, owns the White House. Fact: the WH (and the Capitol) were build largely by enslaved Africans. Fact: they belong to us as Americans. It's factual information and if we don't correct disinformation, we're part of the problem.

I'm WFH since the kids are off and DH is at his alma mater for an alumni/potential future engineers thing with DD.
She's only a freshman but took a career aptitude test earlier this school year and it came back with like 15 different types of engineering lol. She's really strong in math and science.. and her father's daughter so not surprising at all. Hopefully they're having fun.
I popped out around 11 to vote and was there and back within 15 mins. Our state had early voting and the lines were insane for that, so it was nice to just get in and out on the day of.
I intended to early vote last week but work has been so insane, I was in San Diego the first half of last week and then came back to all sorts of issues that were not on my list but needed my attention, culminating in crying during a meeting with my boss late Friday.
There are people voicing opinions on my project at the 11th hour that have no business being entertained. If their opinions were going to carry weight, they should have been consulted a year ago, so I just cannot with this nonsense now. Also, these changes they're suggesting are just so far beyond what's best for the overall goals and I'm having a hard time being nice when even discussing it results in more work for my plate with no option to delegate to anyone else. I don't know how much longer I can stay in this role. I feel like I've been saying that for a year.
There's part of me that wonders if this amount of stress is just how it is at this level of my career. Hopefully I've been direct enough with my boss about the aspects of this project that cannot happen again that real change actually happens. I just need to get through the next few months.
I am in a rabbit hole of videos of the last finishers of the NYC marathon, and I'm crying at every one of them.
Somehow the 11 hour finishers are more inspiring to me than the winners. Also the crowds who stay out with glow sticks to cheer them on are good people.
The most inspiring thing I have ever watched is the last hour of Ironman races!
The golf tournament I ran yesterday was so incredibly successful. I am so proud of what we did!!! It was also so much fun!
I have been so anxious over it, I finally slept through the night last night!
I am trying so hard to spend my work day ignoring election stuff. I voted weeks ago and my ballot was already counted. I’ll watch results tonight with a cocktail in hand.
So I’ve been at my job for 15 months. Others in my cubicle area started after me. I have a cubicle neighbor who is responsible for ordering both name tags and cubicle name signs. He’s mentioned that he needs to order mine several months ago.
The other day someone else’s name plate was on my desk. So I told the coworker that he put it in the wrong cubicle and I’ll give it to the correct person. He thanked me and so I asked about the status of my name tag and plate. He said he ordered it, and knows he had it but will need to look for it.
Guys that conversation was 2 weeks ago and I still don’t have anything.

WTH.
Plot twist. He does not actually know your name and is stalling.
Just got back from voting…2 hrs 20 min in line. I have NEVER seen lines like this, not even 2016. I live in a red suburb of a very blue Philadelphia metro area, so I’m hoping this turnout means good things. No one got nasty in line, everyone was in a good mood, and it’s a beautiful day, so standing outside for two hours wasn’t the worst thing to do today.
One thing I was surprised about is that they were allowing people with candidate and political garb into the polling area. There was definitely way more Trump gear (which btw, is always so tacky…why is everything sequined and bedazzled to all hell?), but there people sporting Harris/Walz attire, as well. I’m wondering if the election workers just didn’t want to potentially start shit with anyone, so they were letting it slide. I know some states permit it, but PA definitely doesn’t.
Now I’m going to try to manage my stress and anxiety for the rest of the day.

I had a post it note with my name on it as a work around. 🥴
I just read that University City (where Drexel and Penn are, located in West Philadelphia bordering Center City) has hit 100% of 2020 turnout by noon. The city as a whole is at 85.7% of 2020 turnout at noon. They are estimating the city of Philadelphia could approach 90% turnout. That might be aggressive but even if it doesn’t it’s very encouraging!

Just staring at this rider app. No rides yet. I guess maybe there isn't a ton of demand for Democratic voters needing a ride to the polls. Just give me one!

Of the just shy of 4,000,000 registered Democrats in PA, there are over 808k in Philadelphia County (only 136k registered Republicans), so if this is any indication of what voter turnout looks like in the rest of the city, that is likely a very good thing.
