arielroux- they don’t allow it in Texas either. In 2016 they refused entry to guys wearing union shirts. I saw this big group of union guys all digging through their pickups, looking for shirts for everybody, that didn’t have union stuff on them. I was tempted to wear a tee shirt with cats on it (I have a bagillion of them) but didn’t want to have to go home, change, and wait in line again. I figured cats were even more political than unions.
Just got back from voting…2 hrs 20 min in line. I have NEVER seen lines like this, not even 2016. I live in a red suburb of a very blue Philadelphia metro area, so I’m hoping this turnout means good things. No one got nasty in line, everyone was in a good mood, and it’s a beautiful day, so standing outside for two hours wasn’t the worst thing to do today.
One thing I was surprised about is that they were allowing people with candidate and political garb into the polling area. There was definitely way more Trump gear (which btw, is always so tacky…why is everything sequined and bedazzled to all hell?), but there people sporting Harris/Walz attire, as well. I’m wondering if the election workers just didn’t want to potentially start shit with anyone, so they were letting it slide. I know some states permit it, but PA definitely doesn’t.
Now I’m going to try to manage my stress and anxiety for the rest of the day.
I was surprised too-- there were a few MAGA hats in line with me. Someone on the CEP page said that the only restriction is that it can't say the candidates name? I do also think that it comes down to the volunteers and their ability/willingness to enforce it.
Mostly though I saw a lot of people dressed entirely in blue, which could be a coincidence. But I know my blue shirt definitely was intentional so I'm choosing to see it as a sign.
I just read that University City (where Drexel and Penn are, located in West Philadelphia bordering Center City) has hit 100% of 2020 turnout by noon. The city as a whole is at 85.7% of 2020 turnout at noon. They are estimating the city of Philadelphia could approach 90% turnout. That might be aggressive but even if it doesn’t it’s very encouraging!
UC-my old stomping grounds! Can you share a link to these stats?

It was coming from here! I saw some of my election follows providing that stats referencing this. So nothing official 🙁 www.jonathantannen.com/turnout_tracker/
That’s changing in real time so it could be different now.
I created a feminist/good luck playlist and have been listening to it all afternoon while I anxiety clean, it’s helping me feel more hopeful! I dropped my ballot off on my 40th birthday a couple weeks ago to give it a boost of luck, lol. I love all mail-in voting in WA.

He said it himself- Bad things happen in Philadelphia 🤡
I was reading about the the history of the White House with my 4th grade reading group yesterday. One of them told me trump owns the White House. No kid, he doesn't. We aren't allowed to talk politics at school with the kids, thankfully. I'm in a red city so it would be futile and end with a whole bunch of pissed off parents if I dared to steer their kids 'wrong'. Also, most of my co-workers vote R straight down the ballot so....
Anyways, hoping for a Harris/Walz landslide today. And for a whole bunch of initiatives to not pass in WA state.
I hope you at least corrected this. It's not at all political to say that no person, not even the former President, owns the White House. Fact: the WH (and the Capitol) were build largely by enslaved Africans. Fact: they belong to us as Americans. It's factual information and if we don't correct disinformation, we're part of the problem.
Oh yes, we talked in depth about who it belongs to and who built it.
By we can't can't talk politics I meant I can't discuss who I voted for or why and we tell the kids we aren't discussing it if they try to tell us who they'd vote for or how their parents voted. We don't discuss any candidates or initiatives etc.
I’ve been avoiding watching/reading the news and have decided to watch Hallmark holiday movies all night, or really however long it takes. Cookies and milk will be consumed!
At least the temps have dropped a bit today. My 50s have welcomed me in with hot flashes this week and I haven’t figured out how much of it is peri and how much is related to still being in the 80s. November should be cooler!
I voted early. There are 2 locations that are out of the way of the big population centers/cities in my county. There is never a line. I would rather drive the extra few minutes than stand in line those same minutes....plus I feel like those poll workers are so sweet!
Spending the day with DD1 at an amusement park (+ 3.5hrs in the car just listening to music) was a great plan. I had no time to really think election or work craziness! Now I'm settled in for a long night with edibles and snacks.
I am also debating what to do about tomorrow. I was planning to go into the office, and we were told it's safe to return, but I dunno. Still not sure if I want to be in the same building as H just in case. I'm not sure if election stuff will cause this to die down or make it worse. (callback to my post yesterday about threatening stuff at work).
I’m on pins and needles but don’t want to watch election coverage this year. I’m still scarred from 2016. I’ve got to get a sense of where it’s going before I go to bed, but I got my flu and Covid shots today so I won’t make it much past 11.
I can’t even watch the coverage. I’m mostly trying to distract myself. A friend keeps texting me to come over but I just can’t. After the deep disappointment in 2016, I just can’t do it again. I’m so disgusted with our country and fucking MEN and “Christian” churches.

It was my granddaughter's 21st birthday. She's in the Army but has been having some issues that she learned yesterday are going to cause her to be separated from the military for medical reasons. Not what she wanted to happen. She thought she was going before the medical board in January but apparently they reviewed her file and made a decision based on medical findings without needing a full hearing.
