We’re getting ready for a first floor renovation and I’m currently boxing and packing stuff up. We are wine people.. the non cellared wine is being stored in DS’s closet. I’m not sure what to do with the nicer wine that’s currently in our wine fridge. We *could* put it in one of the bedrooms, but it’s super noisy. My suggestion was that we can just move the fridge to the garage. DH is concerned about temperature getting too cold. We live in the Bay Area, the lowest nighttime we tend to get is in the low 30’s, and it’s not super common. Is this a bad idea? Bottles inside the wine fridge that has some insulation in the garage. The garage will be our de facto kitchen, so I imagine we’ll be running a heater in there in the mornings and evenings, which will offset some of the chill, but it’s definitely not insulated. (I honestly couldn’t even guess how cold it actually gets inside.)
My husband says it really depends on the quality of the wine fridge (from a fellow Bay Area wine collector). If the fridge only cools, then the low 30s will damage the wine.
Could you put it in a closet or the living room for the time being? Or declare it out of use and put it in the garage wrapped up in major insulation (allowing space, of course, for the venting bit).
You get low 30s in the Bay Area? It rarely dips below 40 where we are, and that isn't for an extended time. I'd put It in the garage and consider wrapping the unit with some sort of insulation if you are worried about freezing temps.
Could you just leave it plugged in on the first floor and move it to the garage if there are specific days when they need to work on the entire first floor? We did a reno last year and were able to use the outlets 99% of the time.
My other thought is will the garage get down to the 30s? With the garage door shut my garage is cooler than the outside but it never gets close to the outdoor temps.

I honestly couldn’t tell you what months it happens, but we have maybe 10 days a year where it’s low 30’s and everything is coated in frost when we leave in the mornings. Definitely not the norm and definitely not for extended time, but we’re already at low 40’s overnight right now.
Insomnia is good sometimes. It will live in our room and I’ll stick it on a smart timer so that it doesn’t run at night. It’s not like our room is going to risk hitting summer temps while we’re sleeping. Thank you 3am anxiety.
