I don’t normally post on this board as I’m not a mom. But would love the advice of parents! The family we’re buying presents for this Christmas has a 9-year-old girl and on her list, one of the items is just “toys.” Not having kids, I have no clue what’s “in” right now for that age of child and thought I’d ask here instead of just wandering the toy aisles aimlessly lol.
Any tips on what would be cool toys for a 9-year-old?
I would say Squishmallows, Legos, slime, Taylor Swift stuff. Cool markers; Papermate markers seem to be liked. Girls that age tend to also like cute journals. Fidgets. I would stay away from craft kits--they seem to accumulate and not get used much. Mini Brands and the "make it mini" stuff. Last year my kid still really liked Barbie but that's hard to get without more info. Sushi Go is a cute little card game. My kid is weirdly obsessed with a little Pac Man retro arcade game, too.
I got my 6 and 9 year old girls Bitzees for Xmas last year and they have been a hit. They played with them a ton and are still playing with them occasionally. They only had the original last year but they have a few new options now.
This is perfect! Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ve not heard of many of these things so would not have ever known to seek them out without your help.
I'd probably do legos and a clay bead set (like the Taylor swift ones, mostly because I'm obsessed myself). My DD who is 5 got a bitzee for her bday but hasn't used it much, I think she's too young for it, so that might be a good option too
What's the clime where they live? If they get snow, I would gift a sled or blow up snow tube.
If they live in a warmer climate, I would consider a big kid scooter or Aerobie flying ring and real binoculars.
If she's crafty, a clay bead kit.
IQ type puzzle games are also popular. There's also mini robotic building kits for $50 or less, and Rubik's cube building sets.
We live in IL and are supposed to have a snowy winter this year, so I could get snow toys. I don't know anything about her personality and don't have a way to find out since we are going through an organization that keeps it anonymous and just gives us the wish lists as written.
