deadwing, I'm sorry that was their reaction! I think you are right to be able to do what you want - it's your holidays, too. Just stay firm and they will have to deal with it.
fluffycookie, I hope you get some answers and that it's nothing serious.
I have seen so many more Christmas decorations up early this year than normal. Outdoor decor and Christmas trees, I don’t know why but I kind of like it - it makes me feel like I need to get mine up now though.
I think a lot of people felt like they needed some cheer after the election! Plus Thanksgiving is late this year. We have our trees up but not decorated yet.
Thanksgiving is really late. Or at least it feel like it’s *really* late. All last week I kept having to remind myself we had another full week.
I have a dentist appointment today for three cavities. He told me it shouldn’t affect eating and drinking. 3? Covering both sides? Ok……
and then derm on Wednesday, to check out a mole that I had as a kid, then it disappeared, and is now back. It’s a normal looking mole, but is just weird. I had my skin check in May, and I don’t remember it being there. Maybe it was? In which case this is a silly appointment. But it’s weird for a mole to go away and then come back, no?
My dog is driving me crazy today. She is having some belly issues, and we don’t have a fenced yard. So I’m spending like 15-20 minutes every hour taking her out.
Some of our neighbors have their Christmas stuff outside already, too. I don't mind it! It's tough to do Christmas stuff outdoors here, most of us don't have outlets on the front of our houses so actual lights aren't possible, but some people hang them inside or have other non-electric decorations out. A couple of people seem to have added an outlet out front, so that's nice. I would love to do that someday, maybe once all of the other 700 things that needed doing to this house are done and we have the extra money, haha.
I had a really nice weekend. My H and I were both really run down last week, so we called in sick to work on Friday and just watched movies and ordered lunch and hung out. Then Saturday we randomly went to a brewery, then came back and took an edible and hung out and watched movies. Yesterday I cooked a Thanksgiving meal for us and we watched some football. I mentioned last week we were a bit disconnected lately, and I feel like this weekend was good for reconnecting. We had a lot of fun and it was nice to just hang out without really having to be anywhere else or do anything we didn't feel like doing.
I'm looking forward to eating Thanksgiving leftovers later. Definitely doing a turkey sandwich for lunch and then we'll pull out everything again for dinner. It was a lot of cooking yesterday but I'm glad it means that I'm off the hook for food prep for at least a few days.

I usually decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving, but DD will be with her dad that weekend - add that to the late Thanksgiving and we are going to decorate this weekend.

I'm in Ecuador and it is glorious but the altitude is no joke. We went to Cotopaxi yesterday which is about 3000 ft higher than Quito and while I struggled yesterday I think it helped me acclimate. Too bad that we're off to sea level Galapagos tomorrow. We're leaving for a food tour soon and I'm so excited!

Staying Christmas themed - my kids (18 and 16) and I decided last night at dinner that we are going to bring the Elf back out this year and just take turns hiding it around the house. She has lived in a box on top of my dresser for the last several years and I'm looking forward to a little extra Christmas magic this year.

wildrice we added an outdoor outlet the year we bought our house specifically for Christmas lights. We also added one on our mantle. I'm actually thinking of added a second outdoor outlet, but to install it I'd have to drill through brick and sadly I think that is a bit above my skill level.

We leave for vacation Saturday and I CANNOT WAIT! It's going to be a long week, I'm sure, especially since mentally I'm already on vacation, lol. But at least it should be an easy/slow week since we saw most of our clients at a conference last week, and most close down for Thanksgiving week.
hermione , welcome to youth sports. It's awful. And it only gets worse. We had players deliberately running my goalie in the net, hitting him with their stick this weekend and the coach cheering it on.
DD (10U) played in a hockey tourney in VT this weekend and yesterday they played in the championship game. We were losing 4-0 with 3 mins left in the 3rd and DD was facing off, won the puck and the opposing center checked her so hard in the chest she went flying. Right in front of the ref and no call, WTAF? I looked at it on LiveBarn and can hear myself yelling "WOAHHHH!!!!!" haha.
Speaking of said tournament, I now have unpacking and laundry to do and I don't wanna. I'm giving DD the night off from practice tonight after 4 games over the weekend and she now has an ear infection on top of it. Her poor little body.
hermione that doesn't surprise me at all, I have seen some seriously shady behavior from the "adults" who coach youth sports. I know it's hypocritical, but I am happy your kid's team beat hers 😂

Only 3 1/2 days of work this week and then we leave to get married and our honeymoon. I'm so ready to be off work for 11 whole days. We haven't started packing though, that's tonight's project.
rubytue I think it’s the latest date it can possibly fall on!
It is! Because Nov 1 was a Friday.
I just looked at the calendar and realized there are only three full weeks between Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas week! That’s crazy. I am not ready for either holiday!
I bought this Ferrero assortment that has the Rocher and like five other flavored candies at Costco today and the guy packing the carts was so excited about it. Apparently it’s his girlfriend’s favorite and they had a tasting night and tried them all. Coconut was their favorite and cappuccino was a surprise hit. As I walked away he was calling “enjoy the candy!!!”. It was so cute.

beerlover could they spend the night at a hotel near you that Friday and head back to their house on Saturday in the light? Or stay in DE an extra day?

The coconut is really good!
I bought it to split up and put in our advent calendar but I’m secretly hoping they are too big to fit and I will have an excuse to open them sooner lol He made them sound so good!

beerlover I'd be concerned your Dad would demand to leave early which would cut your trip short. I agree they should just skip this year. Hopefully in another month he will be able to participate in more gatherings. Could you offer to order them a Thanksgiving meal from a place local to them they could pick up? Maybe would smooth things over and let you off the hook.

Had a great weekend with friends, good to be home though too. It was great to catch up and see so many people and we enjoyed some great food and booze. The Christmas market we visited had several local wineries with booths. There was one though that easily got our vote for #1. They are releasing their most popular wine of this season later in the week, but had some bottles of it at the market and we definitely put a dent in their stash. It had a kick to it. I'm drinking that at DH's family Thanksgiving so I can tolerate SIL and FIL.
tacokick, they can't stay in DE an extra day or they'd have no way of getting home lol. We go Thursday morning and come back Friday afternoon, so if they're going with us, that's the timeframe. maudefindlay, we're basically only there for 24 hours so I don't think demanding to leave early will be an issue.
Per Google, where we're going is 3 hours and 30 min from our house. The trip becomes 4 hours and 30 minutes if we pick them up. I'm not going to ask them to get a hotel room in my town Friday night to save us two total hours, it doesn't really seem fair, I just want to complain because it's inconvenient and honestly I prefer traveling just the 3 of us.
They're only 45 minutes from me and we get home around 5pm Friday so my mom not wanting to drive home from here at night is ridiculous but here we are.
I do just hope they don't go. I said nicely to my mom that if she thinks he is going to be grumpy that he should sit this one out.

Also, I and another friend are both afraid of 3rd friend's 15lb cat. She hisses and lunges and bites. Even 3rd friend's son is afraid of her. Cat only likes 3rd friend and her oldest daughter. When 3rd friend's Mom comes to feed her when they are out of town she grabs a large cushion from their porch furniture and walks with it in front of her to protect herself. 3rd friend locks cat up when we visit, but she gets out often...or teleports herself, I have little doubt she can do that.

I love the cart checkers at Costco. We have one whose name tag says D Love. He always has something cute to say. When I have 40lb bag of dog food, he asks if I need help loading and when I say no thanks, he always responds “Oh, I’m scared of you”. On Halloween, he was wearing a full old time doctor costume.
I have an asshole, racist, MAGAt uncle who used a racial slur at Thanksgiving a few years ago. As a result, my sister, one cousin, and I refuse to be in his presence and I have a feeling a big family drama is brewing over it. Another cousin (his step daughter) asked us to reconsider and we all refused, so far radio silence from the cousin but I can sense the conversations going on in the background. My mom cannot be trusted so I can’t talk to her about it, I’m dying to know how it’s all going to play out. I wish my aunt would just tell him to stay home from family gatherings but the boomer women in my family will all put up with just about anything to hold onto a man, even if he’s straight garbage.
I still have my fall decor up too but I think we will put up Christmas this weekend. Normally I wait until the day after Thanksgiving but we are traveling that day now.

I thought maybe you all could stay an extra night in DE and come back together Saturday.
I do think them staying home makes the most sense since he doesn’t seem comfortable but I personally wouldn’t hesitate to suggest them spending a night locally to break up the driving. Two extra hours is not tiny imo especially for a short trip on a holiday weekend when you might hit traffic. But I am not someone who loves making long drives back to back!

That’s amazing! They are always so cheerful. I don’t think I could do it.
