For fun and social group games, we like Telestrations and Blank Slate. We have Chameleon, and the kids really like it, and I think it’s OK, but after a few rounds, I kind of get tired of it because it seems like it’s either impossible to be the chameleon if you are one of the very first players, or super easy, if you are one of the last. The kids would recommend it though.
We have One Night Ultimate Werewolf, a game where you close your eyes and all complete a certain role (or just sit there) and then open eyes and try to figure out who the werewolf(ves) are. I don't know what it is about that game, but all the kids LOVE IT. It's actually more meant for adults than kids, but the kids really get addicted. When my kids have friends or cousins at our cottage, they just want to play it over and over again. You have to download an app to play music and tell everyone what to do.
I haven't played this in a long time, but we used to also do Camel Up with a group. It's a betting/camel racing game. It's fun if everyone gets into it, hams it up, and doesn't take it seriously.
For more of a four-person, not that long and not that intense strategy game for people who want to sit at a table and play a game, I really like Azul. It's super confusing the first time you try to play but quickly becomes clear after you've played it.
ETA: Throw Throw Burrito is super fun and crazy but you need the right space so that can be limiting. Don't want to break anything with burritos or have people get hurt running around.
ETA again: I see you really wanted a family game, not a big group game. oops. So I stick with Azul. I'm also wanting to maybe try "Reef" this year. Another quick/light family or group game my kids like is Hellapagos. It's an easy cooperative game but doesn't have to be cooperative b/c people can turn on each other.
Spots is an all time favorite here. SIL gifted it to us and now I've gifted it to other families. It's super simple but can get very competitive and fun!
