Were the 2nd and 3rd books hard to get into? I've only read the first book, and while I liked it, it was so painfully slow at first that I nearly gave up a few times. I want to keep reading, but I'm not sure I have it in me if it's going to be just as hard to get into the next book.

Yes. I found all three hard to get into, especially the third, but keep reading. As I recall, they both pick up pretty quickly, and they're well worth it!

I found the 1st slow to pick up, but the 2nd was much quicker to get into. I thought the 3rd was easy to get into since it seemed to pick up right where the 2nd ended (like the first chapter of 3 could have been another chapter in 2). I did find I was losing interest in 3 by reading it so soon after 2.

There is still detail overkill (I don't care who went to Burger King and got the vegetarian burger) in the 2nd and 3rd books, but I liked the 2nd and third books a lot more than the first.

I'm glad to hear this! I want to finish the series, but didn't want to waste my time if they were going to take forever to get into the meat of the story.
I haven't read the third book yet, but I really liked the story in the first two. They were a little slow at first with the major action in the last 1/4 of the book. If you didn't really enjoy or get into book one, I don't think you'd like two.

I also found the first book painfully slow at first. So much detail, so much stuff about Sweden and Stockholm that I just didn't understand nor cared to look up (like Olaf Plame or what have you). But I am glad I stuck with it because I thought it got VERY good at the end and then I loved the second and third books. I didn't find the second or third books to be slow at all.
