My cousin opened up a contract with an oil company under my name last November. She failed to pay the bill and after 6 months they found me and mailed me a court summons.
I turned her in but since she payed the bill yesterday they are not pressing charges.
Apparently all you need in NY is a name and address to have oil delivered??
My name her address and phone number. Then when he was sending bills they were coming back return to sender. They managed to find the real me in the phone book and called my parents house. Mom had them mail the bill to her. It wasnt a bill though but a court summons.
I confronted her the night I got it. She lied & lied & lied some more. I called the company the next morning and he gave me the whole run down of the last 6 months. Proving that she was lying.
I am not returning her phone calls or messages. She keeps saying she is sooo sorry... I dont care im all set with that garbage.

can/would you press charges for Identity Theft?
If you didn't plan on doing it this time. I would save everything, and tell her if she does it again to anyone you'll turn all that over, to show that she's done it before.

You can press charges even if the company does not. Using your name and identity fraudulently is illegal by itself. I'd also be running a credit check to see what else she's been up to as you.
I have all of the info saved and she has been warned. I run regular credit checks because of my shady ex. As of right now im not pressing charges. Just cutting her out of my life.
