This last time around, my personal standard was 10 DPO: I felt like there was something about 10 DPO made me feel like I'd demonstrated some patience and self control when it came to peeing on things...but not enough to actually wait and see if I was late. (That and I think that if you are pg, there's a reasonable chance of it showing up at that point or at any time thereafter. Before 10 DPO? Not so much, and I disappoint easily.)
(W/DS, though, I was so sure that we weren't pg that quickly that I waited 'til I was, oh, like a week late. So it was probably 20 DPO? That's probably not helpful.)
I waited until I was 8 days late on my period. The cycle before, I tested at 5 days late. My period came at 6 days late. I readjusted my cycle length and waited longer the next month. I only used opks. Make sure to test more than once a day during the most likely time Good luck.!

I don't feel comfortable testing early because I honestly didn't want to know if I had a CP.
Anyhoo, I tested at 14DPO it was negative. I tested again at 18 DPO and it was positive.
As for mouth breathing, I think you can still see a change? I temped through mouth breathing and my frequent night waking and it was still fairly obvious when I O'd and when I was pregnant (my chart was like crazy text book).
With DD I got a BFP at 9 DPO and with DS it was 8 DPO (temping and using OPKs, so I am confident on O date). I wish I had the willpower not to test so early, but when both of my positives were that early, it is hard not to!

I am with Kari and waiting it out. It can be very discouraging to have a positive and then have a CP. I am breathe with my mouth open and also get up during the night but still am able to see a thermal shift with charting. Taking your temp everyday give you something to do. But I know everyone is different. In any case, I do not usually get a positive until 13-14 dpo.

I had a faint positive at 9DPO and a very definite positive at 10DPO. I have no willpower to hold out on testing, but never tested earlier than 9DPO. I also had an implantation dip at 7DPO and everything I read suggested that you can get a positive 2-3 days after implantation.
I didn't test until around 16 DPO with DS1 and got a very dark positive. With DS2 I tested at 10 DPO and got a negative, then tested again at 12 DPO and got relatively light but definitely there positive.

If you are not charting how are you determining O? OPKs can not really tell you if you ovulated. I would try to wait until at least 12 DPO, but since it does not sound like you would be sure of O, I would probably wait longer.

I usually started at 10dpo. With DD I got a positive at 12dpo with a Dollar Tree test. With DS I decided to test at 9DPO with an early response test and got a very faint line. Then tested the next day with a digital and it said Pregnant . I would say try to wait until 12dpo but I know how hard it is.

some women can actually feel when they O. I always know. It's a sharp pain for me.
I was charting and had a sharp ovulation pain that matched a temp rise. I started testing with Wondofos at 8 DPO and got a squinter line at 12 DPO. My luteal phase was usually 11 days, so I broke out a digital test on 13 DPO which gave me a quick BFP.

I know, i get O pain as well. But if you are not charting there is not a good way to tell if O pain is before, during or after O. It might help you narrow things down to a few days, but I would not rely on just O pain for an ovulation date.

shrug, worked for me last time. If I have problems after a few months this time, i'll chart but I don't see any reason to now.
