We have my brother's wedding in RI this weekend coming up. My husband asked his old grad to come with us for an extra set of hands. We are leaving on Thursday and coming back on Sunday. She is going to come with us to the rehearsal dinner, and then she'll come with us to the ceremony and the cocktail hour, but then take the babies back to the hotel. We are going to cover all the hotels and food-and she'll have some time on Friday and Saturday and we'll be in Newport. How much would you pay her for her time?
I would offer a flat rate. For a friend $100/day and for a family member I hope they would go a little cheaper $50/day. If it's a nanny I would pay higher.
Now-would the $4-500 still the same if she was only expected to be by herself with the babies for 4 hours on Saturday night? Otherwise, she has Friday free until the rehearsal dinner (which she's just coming along because we thought it would be fun for her as it's a Clambake) and then we don't need her until Saturday at like 5 for the ceremony.
I would have SO much rather just hired someone there for the 5 hours on Saturday night! BUt then she offered to come, and DH would much rather know the person.

If she's a good friend, and is really only spending 4 hours watching the babies, I'd probably just pay whatever you might for the evening. Your covering food, transportation and inviting her to the events.
If she's not very close, I would probably pay more. But either way I'd discuss expectations and payment before you go.

Thanks again!
I would still agree with the 4-500 answer. Even though she isn't on duty the whole time, you are still taking her away from what she would otherwise be doing.
JMHO, but when I was a nanny and went on vacation with families, I always got paid a premium for being away from home, even if we were in fun places and I got free time to check them out.

Probably 300. I think people on the nest are crazy when they respond to vacation/nanny posts saying you should pay their full wage for the whole day + all food + some spending money. IMO they are going on a working vacation, so the vaca is part of the compensation. If they don't want to go they can say no and I can easily find someone who will want to go for way less money than that!
