DH and I are stuck on a name for dd. I prefer Kate and he prefers Madeline (we're big nicknamers in this family so she'd probably end up being called Maddie).
Which would you choose? I'm open to other suggestions if you have any. Siblings are Ryan and Ben if that matters.
I grew up in the '90's and has a minimum of 3 Kate/ Katie's in every class. And I love the name Madeline, but there are waaaay too many Maddys in my area. I vote Caroline.
My DD1 is Catherine, DD2 is Caroline....Kate/Catherine is WAY overused right now (my DD actually goes by a NN of her middle). Madeline is way overused too--seems like I know 30 kids under 5yrs old with this name. Caroline is my favorite...still common but not crazy like the other 2, it's pretty & I love Carrie as a NN.

Are you set on Catherine or would you consider just naming her Kate? I know 5 women named either Kate or Katie (not as a NN for anything) and I really like that. I LOVE Kate but don't love that you would name her Catherine with a C but give her a NN with a K.
If you go with Madeline, please know that for your DD's entire school career she will be known as "Maddy Last Initial". There are a billion Maddy's out there right now.

Hmm, good point. Does anyone know if Kate is super popular too? Do you routinely come across a ton of them under the age of five?
I only know two Kate's under 5 (and one is actually a Cate), though I do feel like it is pretty common. I also know two Caroline's under 5.
I know four Maddys who are in middle/high school (two Madisons and two Madelines), and two Madelines who are under 5. I also know two Addisons and an Adeline under 5, all of whom go by Addy. There are definitely a ton of Maddys and Addys out there right now.
I would bet she will be least likely to encounter another girl with her name in the same class if you go with Caroline.
