DS's first birthday was monkey themed, 2nd was Cookie Monster, 3rd was Toy Story, and his 4th in a couple weeks will be Spider Man. There is a lot of cute stuff in the latest Oriental Trading catalog.
I've started collecting ideas. I don't have a theme in mind but I plan to decorate with a lot of color. Itll likely be a BBQ (as in pork, not burgers) at our house.
I'm going with a Whale of a Time theme. It's an outdoor BBQ with lots of easy decor (think ocean blue drinks, etc) since it will be at my ILs' house out of state. I will character themes when he's old enough to realize what they are, lol.
We did a baseball theme for the first, farm for second, and third was beach but I tossed the cake due to a baking mishap and luckily got a nice baker at the grocery willing to make make a Cars cake with 12 hours notice. First birthday cakes:
We aren't really doing a 'theme' per se, but we'll have a bunch of brightly colored balloons for decorations. My mom is doing the cake, it'll have colorful balloons on it. She's doing a large cupcake for each of the boys to smash into.
DH will be grilling some hamburgers and hot dogs. There won't be but a handful of kids, all under the age of four. I'm not sure what kind of favors to do. The kids range in age from eight weeks to three years old.
Now next year, when the boys are in daycare, they'll have their own 'friends' to invite.
We did a Bollywood theme: bright colors w/ gold accents, bangles & bindis for the women, Indian buffet lunch, adorned elephant cookies, bought the kid her first Indian outfit, etc.

Fun! I am definitely stealing this if and when we have a daughter! My relatives would love to send over Indian outfits.
We ended up with a monkey theme in the nursery without really trying, so his 1st birthday was a monkey theme.

We do small family parties but I still have fun with theme & decor. I am going to do either Very Hungry Caterpillar or Cupcakes for DD first...we justdid a fun train theme for DS.

I think we are doing a Little Monsters theme (he was born a week before halloween after all). I am not sure where it will be. I really want it to be outside, but the weather is kind of unpredictable.
We had DD's party at the beach, so we did a beachy/seashells theme. Got a cake from a local bakery. Low-key, but still lots of fun.
We're going to do her 2nd bday at my ILs' here in town. I'm thinking a picnic / Very Hungry Catepillar (sp?!) theme. We'll see what I have the energy for.
