In another post you mentioned that Hilo is allergic to poultry. Did you figure this out by an elimination diet or did you do an alergy test with your vet?
I'm in the middle of switching Betty from a grain free kibble that had chicken in it to a raw chicken diet. She seems really itchy, so your post got me wondering if Betty's allergic to poultry too. She's not completely off of kibble, so I'm not sure if I'm worrying too soon.
So Sorry!! I haven't been checking in in a few days
No vet tests, I try to avoid going unless necessary. Hilo's skin was always breaking out and we couldn't figure out why until his trainer mentioned that lots of dogs are allergic to birds. We had been feeding raw chicken so we figured it couldn't hurt to just stop for a couple weeks. His skin cleared right up so I gave him another serving and he broke out again. He was also always itchy even after a bath where we rinsed him really well but not anymore.
There's no need to worry as long as it's not upsetting her tummy. I would just eliminate chicken from her diet for a couple weeks to see how she does. Maybe switch to a kibble (same brand) with no chicken in it before trying raw chicken.
Thanks! How soon did you notice a change in hilo's itching?
I just pulled her off of raw chicken and got her raw venison. She's completely off kibble now, so I'm really hoping this is the answer. She seems less itchy, but its only been 4 feedings.
I think it took about a week before we really noticed a difference and 2 weeks before it completely cleared up. I can't remember about the itching but I think it just slowly went away.
Supplement the venison with some organ meats too. It's good for their digestive system. Hilo gets venison and beef as his meat and tripe (very smelly but good for them) and beef organs as his organ meat.
