We are headed to Charleston, SC this weekend for a friend's wedding. We are going to be there from Thurs-Sun morning.
We are headed there with C's brother and SIL and since we don't have any plans and we aren't part of the wedding party, we are going to go explore ourselves. Only committment we have is the Saturday night wedding that begins at 6pm.
Any "must-sees/do" suggestions? Places to eat (local mamma/pappa places are the best).
Husk, Fig, Magnolia, SNOB, all great restaurants. We have done tours every time we have gone, just to get a feel for it, and it is interesting. You can go out to a plantation, will you have a car?

No car, as we have a shuttle taking us to from the airport that the bride has set up. We figured we'd take a taxi or our feet??
Are you staying in th historic district? If so, Market Street, Rainbow Row, the battery. Maybe a carriage tour. If you have time, do the Ferry /Tour of Fort Sumpter. Not sure how much $ a cab to Middleton Plantation would be but it's absolutely gorgeous.

I believe we are staying near this hotel: Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel.
From there, you can walk to the carriage tours, or take a walking tour. I'd actually recommend just strolling around south of Broad Street to take in the historic homes, gardens, architecture, and you'll end up at White Point Garden (more of a park then a garden) and at the harbor. check out the fountains and swings at Waterfront Park off East Bay Street. At night there are ghost tours including one of the old jail which can be interesting.
Your also near prime shopping district on King Street, lots of retail stores both national and local for clothes, antiques, art, etc. The market shopping area on Market Street might be worth checking out but is actually pretty touristy.
Saturday morning there is a great farmer's market at Marion Square with awesome food and vendors.
For food, I'd recommend Cru Cafe for lunch or dinner (in a historic home and great food). Fleet Landing is on the water and has pretty good food (not an A+ but A-). Hominy Grill is a little far, but has awesome food and has been featured on several Food Network programs. More upscale dining - Cypress, Magnolia's, FIG. Pearlz oyster bar and Social Wine bar are fun for happy hour.
