I'm finally getting around to ordering birth announcements for DD. I've been putting them off because I am not happy with how her newborn shots turned out. We just did them in the hospital with the service that comes around. That's what we did with DS, and they turned out great. However, DD was awake through the whole thing, so there are lots of shots with her eyes half open or cross eyed.
This is the best shot we got:
I'm considering using a picture that I took myself. I am not professional by any means. I'm not even a hobby photographer. I'm just a mom with a point and shoot. I got these earlier this week at 7 weeks.
I've looked through all the other photos I've taken, and I don't think any of the pictures I took early on would work. The only one I might even consider is this one when she's 7 days old, but she's making a weird shape with her mouth and the blanket is cutting off the corner of her head.
If you were me, would you use the true newborn shot in the announcement? Or would you use one of the ones I took?
ETA: I'm not worried that it isn't okay to use a picture you take yourself in a birth announcement. I'm worried they the ones I took aren't good enough because I have no idea what I'm doing or what to look for. I won't be offended at all if you tell me one of the pictures I took isn't quality enough.
Also, what about the age thing? Does she look too old for a birth announcement in my pictures?
My favorite is the third shot (the second of the ones you took at home.)
If it's any consolation, we missed the hospital photographer and didn't do DS's NB shoot until he was 6 wks. I used one of the shots I took at home too: they're always better than you think once they're printed on a card that you like, etc.
