I work in a hospital doing clinical research and some time ago I came across the Dr. Susan Love Foundation's website. She is leading a group of physicians to organize women for various studies being conducted at sites across the country. By joining their "Army of Women" here: www.armyofwomen.org/ you will get periodic emails about studies coming up that you may or may not be eligible for. The emails provide the basics to help you determine this. Of course many of them are for women who have/have had cancer, so this may not apply to you, but perhaps you know someone for whom this might apply or who might be interested.
Just this weekend I got an email about a huge new study that applies to all women, 18 and older, whether or not you have had breast cancer. They are collecting health/lifestyle info by asking people to complete online questionnaires every few months and they hope to continue this over the next 20 years to gain more long-term insight. I can tell you from many other things I've read, the data that lesbian and bisexual women can provide to these studies is very important. The link for this new study is here: www.healthofwomenstudy.org/Default.aspx
As a side note, Dr. Susan Love is family with a long-term partner and daughter. Dr. Love was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year and is undergoing treatment for it...further proof that we are all touched by cancer, even those trying to cure it.
I'll step off my soapbox now, but I wanted to share this info with women who I know could contribute to this valuable research.
Thank you for sharing this! I signed up and will share it with friends/family.
Also I wanted to note for others that it says it will take about an hour to complete the first questionnaire, but it only took me 15 minutes. I don't have a complicated health history so I'm sure that helps, but still, it seems unlikely to take an hour if you read at a decent pace.
