I'll Have Another, who won the Kentucky Derby, has also won the Preakness. I don't follow a lot of horse racing, but I used to ride a lot, and I love following the Triple Crown. Maybe we'll finally have another Triple Crown winner? It's been a looooooooong drought.
It takes a tough horse to do it. Looks like I'll Have Another is peaking at the right time. They actually said that he'd put on weight between the Derby and the Preakness, which is crazy. Some horses really like to work and that will no doubt help him in the Belmont. No doubt that he and Bodemeister were heads above the others, it was a great race by both of them. I hope IHA stays healthy and sound for the next three weeks!
I watched both races and they were both great. But the Preakness was much closer (by a neck!).
Everyone loves a triple crown winner, and this is the longest we've gone without one (34 year this year...)
However, a lot of Derby runners sit out the Preakness and will run in Belmont. In 2008, Big Brown won the Derby and the Preakness as well. Belmont will be harder, but we'll see. I'll Have Another being a come-from-behind racer makes it really excited! Also, I imagine Bodemeister's owners and trainers are pissed about placing both times.
Mario really gave IHA a perfect ride. He seems very patient so hopefully he'll get a few rides in at Belmont so he can figure out just how BIG the track is. If I see another horse with a shot at the Triple Crown making their move too early due to their jock, I'll cry. A mile-and-a-half is an unfamiliar distance and most jocks tend to move too soon. Fingers crossed for a Triple Crown winner, I'd love to see it.

Apparently Bodemeister isn't running the Belmont, so that should help IHA.
I disagree with MANY many things about horse racing in America but I don't think that comparing it to bull fighting is appropriate.
Ditto. I will bitch about the training methods and how young the triple crown horses are with the best of them. In fact I did...while at a 2 year old's birthday party in my BFF's backyard while the race was on the TV in the garage.
