Who has done it? Who wished they had/hadn't? Any tips?
I'm beat after 3+ hours at Children's Hospital today. But, hard to feel sorry for yourself when you see a smiley, chubby cheeked 15 month old with a tracheotomy tube while waiting for our Xray.
Anyway, Pumpkin probably has nocturnal asthma and enlarged adenoids. The good news is he doesn't have any allergies! Bad news is he might need surgery. :-(
I am hoping we find an answer for his sleep issues. He is so uncomfortable and waking too much. After a bit of internet researching, I currently have myself freaked out about sleep apnea.
A had her adenoids removed a few years ago, the surgery was fast, 45 minutes for adenoids and tubes. She stopped snoring immediately and has less ear/throat infections. I would approve the surgery in a heartbeat for any of the other kids if needed.
The only tips I can give (if he has surgery) are 1) be prepared to watch him wake up from the anesthesia, it can be scary if they are confused and thrash around, and 2) have plenty of popsicles/ice cream on hand for pain relief.

I saw this post on the latest posts and I thought I would chime in.
Dd had her adenoids and tonsils removed 3 weeks ago due to sleep apnea and hypopnea. The surgery went quickly, but the recovery was pretty rough. There was a 2% chance of bleeding and my dd was that 2%. The area of her adenoids healed up just fine, but a week after her surgery she developed a blood clot and ruptured artery where her right tonsil used to be. She was rushed to the hospital where they preformed an emergency surgery. After the second surgery, she was feeling much better, but she did have an extended hospital stay.
They are waiting for her swelling to go down before following up, but I've already noticed a huge improvement in her breathing. She is hearing impaired and there is a chance the surgery could improve her hearing. It has been rough, but looking back I still would have done the surgery.
Most of her pain has been from the tonsils. I had my adenoids removed as a kid and I didn't have any pain. I had some nausea from the pain meds, but that was it.
I'm sorry Pumpkin's been sick and may need surgery. I hope your little boo feels better soon.
C had just her adenoids removed as a child and it made a huge difference for her. She should have had it done sooner - she was 7 and had only ever breathed through her nose and had to learn to breathe through her mouth.
My friend's kiddo K also had both adenoids and tonsils removed for apnea and it was an amazing success - she could breathe much better and her behavior improved too. Neither C nor K had any complications.
Rosebud had her adenoids out at 1 1/2 and it made a huge difference in her breathing, sleep, and frequency that she gets sick. The surgery itself was quick and simple and she had nearly no recovery time (the younger they are, the better the recovery is for adenoids and tonsils). They had us spend a night in the hospital to monitor her, but that was moreso for the anethesia effects + her in utero exposure and other heath concerns. Overall, it was no big deal - way scarier in the planning than in the execution
Ditto Butterfly on the worst of it being when they wake up - I've never seen my poor baby so inconsolable. But, it was far worse for her tonsil surgery at 2 1/2 than it was for the adenoids a year younger. My biggest regret was not going ahead and pushing to do them both at the same time.
