Spring- early summer is tough. We live downtown, but I anticipate this to be a problem in suburbs too. Baby goes to bed at 7pm and it is too hot to close her windows, but not hot enough for a-c. But then everytime someone walks by yeling (especially at 2 am) it wakes her up. What do you do? We have an air purifier that makes a bit of noise, but doesnt drown out yelling.
We use the ac. We also use a humidifier as white noise every night. Ours has become slightly louder than usual (I think it's broken?) and I'm thrilled.

It just sucks because our a/c is super strong (for the time it is running) so you are either cold cold or warm. We flipped the vent in the babies room to stop it blowing directly on her. Apartment living!
We have a window fan in the window with the drapes over it, so it doesn't get too cold but drowns out the minor noises (like voices, not so much fire trucks). We use the fan with the white noise machine and DS sleeps through it all. Well, the fire trucks he has just gotten used to.

We live on a really busy street. I never leave DS' windows open while he is sleeping (we use a/c). I think it is cold in his room but he pretty much wears a fleece sleep sack year round because of it. However, it is still really noisy (we live above a bar). I think he has just gotten used to it
