It's hard to tell but that expression looks like teething to me. Rub your fingers in the gum. Is it soft? That usually is a sign. When A's came in the only way I could get her to relax was to massage my finger on her gum until she fell asleep and then sneak away. It's sad to see them have pain:(

It is hard to tell by the picture. He is about 3 months? While some babies can get teeth that early, I don't think it's very common. I know everyone swore Beckett was teething from 2 months on, because he was showing all the signs, but he didn't get any until 5 months (and then got 5 in 2 weeks time), and that was relatively young for teeth. Maisy has always had very swollen gums, where it looks like a tooth is about pop through (along with all the teething symptoms) but then it takes a month or longer before it actually comes through. Of course, every baby is different, so you never know. I've found teething is such a guessing game! Hope your little feels better! So hard to have a miserable baby!
Tasha is right, the ages for teething vary widely and it is very much a guessing game. But it is very possible that he is indeed ready to pop one out. Does ribbing his guns seem to offer any relief? If no than maybe it is something else. Is he still taking exclusive breastmilk? Just wondering if maybe he has a little tummy issue? It may be a growth spurt and he's extra tired and cranky and just needs to go down for an extra nap. (I hate those spurts because I end up with a bigger baby and I don't want to let go of my little peanut that I have now).
He has been nomming on his hands non stop, pulling on his ears, and just randomly freaks out! I let him chew on a frozen wash cloth this morning and he seemed to like it.
It could be a growth spurt too, I just don't know. Being a mommy is getting harder! And of course this is during my first week back to work!
I understand. It will get easier. I swear to god. I remember days when she was really fussy and I just couldn't get her to take a nap and I was so tired it hurt and I thought she'd be better off at a daycare because at least they know what the hell they're doing. I would take A in her stroller on the trail through the woods and when no one was around I would just cry while walking her. Sounds so depressing, but the exercise and the just crying it out and then being in the sunlight could give me a new perspective. It's some intense stuff. But it is so much better now. I think it really started to get better around 6 months. Not that there still aren't moments. We've got 3 teeth coming in on top right now, but she's actually sleeping quite a bit and I no longer take having a second to myself for granted. I appreciate everything now.
Hard to tell in the pic. Mia was pretty drooley around 4 months and then was cranky, not sleeping like normal and I felt around and felt two telltale bumps on the bottom. They FINALLY popped through yesterday at 5 months 4 days and now I feel a bump on top.
I know every baby is different but the symptoms you listed..."nomming on his hands and randomly freaking out" is exactly what Mia would do. Good luck, I hope your happy baby returns soon!

When Lila would scream for no reason, I always figured it was from teething, but she did not actually get her first tooth until after her first birthday. The only way I was able to tell when she had a tooth coming through was when I would see a tiny slit in her gum. They are going through tons of changes and it could be any one of a million things causing him to cry. It could just be a phase also. I hope you both get some relief soon.
D was acting the same way. It's getting better, but he's still drooling like crazy & his hands are always in his mouth. D's going to the Dr tomorrow & I plan on discussing his behavior. I'll let you know what he says if you're interested.
Pulling on the ears? I'd have his ears checked out. Sometimes moving your jaw (sucking on his hands) will alleviate ear pressure. He *could* have an ear infection.
