We had someone ring our doorbell yesterday not once but twice. We didn't answer it because we were too busy containing the dogs and had a sleeping baby and we don't want any of whatever they have anyway. It was a Romney supporter. They left us a flyer. I can't help but think that a door to door Romney supporter is simply an Obama hater. Who else could really love Romney that much? I guess I can respect motivation for a cause, but do they really think they are going to change my entire belief system by ringing my doorbell and throwing out a line and handing out some stupid flyer?
It's so optimistic of them. I once had a job as telemarketer, consolidating student loans. It was pretty stressful bothering people at home, and I truly believed in what I was pushing. I can't imagine actually ringing doorbells to give your opinion on something as big as a Presidential election. What goes through your mind when you're waiting for the door to open? I would be thinking "I hope they don't shoot me".
Well, there's something to be said for a "get out the vote" push. Particularly in a state like Florida where it is not easy to get registered to vote, and it has to be done so far ahead of the election. A lot of people might honestly not know they can't register at the polls (especially if they came from a state where registration is easy, e.g. me coming from Wisconsin). That would apply to either side of the campaign.
I highly doubt they are optimistic enough to think they can change anyone's mind who is decided, but perhaps they are trying to reach that undecided vote. (WhoTF is that guy, anyway?)
I'm an independent voter and get people knocking on my door a few times a week. I never answer it, but, sometimes want to just to NOT vote for who ever it is they're pushing. I'm also getting tired of the 15 daily flyers in my mail. Is it November yet?? Ha
I'm so glad I don't live in a swing state. If not for the regular news and SNL sketches, you might never even know there was an election going on here. We don't get the commercials, phone calls, solicitors, etc. Very peaceful by comparison, I'm sure. As it is I'm already SO READY for the election to be over...I don't know how you people stand it.
Kate, do you watch SNL? They did a sketch last week about the "undecided voter." Your comment made me think of it. www.hulu.com/watch/404175

Interesting. I'm an Independent voter and no one has knocked on my door. The only people who call are Obama peps since I once accidentally signed up for some campaign thing. You have my vote, but please leave me alone. K thanks.
I don't ever answer my door unless someone I know is coming over. If someone decides to pop by, they'll call me from the front step if I don't answer the door. My favorite is when someone says, "I can hear you in therrrrrrrrre! I just want to share the good news!" Thanks, but unless you are Ed McMahon, get off my porch!
