I've been a long time Nestie....but honestly never even saw/noticed this board before. I moved over here with my Seattle board that I'm usually on and noticed this board more easily....probably because proboards is so much better!
Anyway, I thought I would introduce myself since we will soon be living internationally. My husband and I currently live near Seattle. We have been married for almost 1 year (July10th).
I am a teacher and a few weeks ago I was hired for a teaching position in Cairo, Egypt!!! We are very excited! We will be arriving there right around August 12th. We don't have official flight info just yet. I will be teaching 1st grade at a very new international school and my husband is going to be a house husband and work on finishing his BA online. He is finishing up his AA this quarter.
Anyway, just thought I would introduce myself to everyone and start getting to know some international buddies! .....so we can crash at your place when we travel other places....haha justttt kidding! ......buttt our place will be open to anyone who wants to visit Cairo too of course...
Hiya, I'm also quite new too. Welcome! I'm an American, my partner is Croatian and I travel a fair bit between DC and Europe though eventually in the next few years, we'll probably settle in Europe. Don't know for sure about that yet though.
I am going to be visiting Egypt for the first time in early July on vacation/holiday. As of right now, I'm not sure if we'll be going to Cairo or not. As a teen, I read a few great fiction books that made me want to visit Cairo & Egypt generally. That and I've always been fascinated by ancient history and anthropology, so of course it's somewhere I'm really excited to see.
So far, it seems like Egypt is a case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Positives and negatives. But yeah, as fair as the cultural diversity of the country goes and the sheer amount of things to do there (not just in Cairo but in the country as a whole), it's an amazing place.

Oooohhh! Which school in Cairo? My school in London plays in a sports league that includes a school in Cairo...and the few people I know who worked in Cairo loved it. Have fun! International teaching is fabulous!

Yah we are very excited about going to Egypt. It is definitely an amazing place with lots of different things to do! I can't wait to hear about your trip, please come back and share! b/c I won't be in Cairo until August.
You should be fine if you do go to Cairo. Just pay attention to the Embassy website and watch for notices of protests. You wouldn't want to find yourselves in the middle of one, but if you avoid it, there is really no issue there. And all the protests are in one small centralized area. Plus, hopefully by then, those will all be over since the elections are soon.

That's great to hear. We are very excited and think it's going to be awesome. Plus, it soooo cheap to travel to Europe from Egypt and neither of us have done much travel AT ALL, so we can't wait for that aspect.
I tried posting earlier but ProBoards crapped out on me. Must be leftover bad karma from the Nest....
Welcome! My DBF went to Cairo American College for a few years of elementary school. He had a great time and an amazing expat lifestyle!
He's Norwegian, I'm American and we're in Australia for a few years.
Yah we are very excited about living the expat lifestyle. My pay isn't very much because I only have 1/2yr of teaching experience. But that said, we can still live very nicely and still SAVE close to $800 per month.....even after budgeting activities and the dreaded student loans. And that's with no income from my H. My school also does give us a housing allowance too, which really helps.
eeeeee we are so excited. I almost feel like time isn't passing fast enough.....but at the same time, passing super fast.

We are Americans who have lived in Edinburgh, Scotland for 6 years and counting. The travelling around is our favourite part! We haven't explored the ME as much as we should - spent a couple weeks in Israel years ago but we have a huge list. Travelling around Europe is super cheap and everyone here can help you when you're ready to start planning!
