My apple tv does this whenever my wifi resets itself, although it cannot turn the tv on by itself. I can see the apple tv turning itself on and off, though, and if the tv is already on, the apple tv menu will come up as if I had done it with the remote.
Do you have wireless technology running through your tv, maybe as part of your dvr or something?
When I was a teenager, I was home alone and goofing off on the computer. I heard a music box in the living room start playing. I thought "Huh. Weird." Then I heard rustling in the kitchen behind me and a package of bread fell off the counter. I turned around glared at the kitchen and said very firmly "Stop it! You're scaring me and I don't like it." The music box turned off right after that.
My sister also used to feel something patting the covers down around her late at night, like it was tucking her in.
We used to live in a house near a hospital. There were always weird things going on there.
So last saturday DH and I were still in bed at 10:30 am (didn't get a lot of sleep so I slept in late). DH stayed in bed with me as he watched a movie on his laptop with his ear buds in (also we had the air conditioning unit in our room on and the bedroom door shut).
Anyway, on with the story. So outside the bedroom is the livingroom with a door that leads to the fire escape/mini deck area. I had the link chain lock on, but I'm not sure if I locked the bottom door handle. We also had the coffee table in front of the door because we've been exercising in the living room.
So, it was early, bright and suuny and quiet. Mike's all watching his movie in bed, I'm sleeping. Suddenly...BAMMMM! Even though our door was shut, I knew that was the sound of the back door hitting the table, and our bird started screeching in alarm.
I kicked DH and yelled, " The back door's open! Somebody's getting in!"
He got up and looked, and sure enough, open against the table (although the chain lock was more than enough to hold it almost shut, that thing is like cemented into the wall). DH popped his head outside and didn't see anyone, so he shut the door, made sure it was totally locked, and decided it was just the wind...except that there wasn't so much as a gentle breeze.
I mean, I didn't -hear- anyone out there, or see anything. BUT. I tested the door before I went to Trader Joes later. You can't just push on the door even when it is completely unlocked and have it open. You literally -must- twist the handle for the door to physically open.
And I swear I locked the bottom lock.
The whole thing is creepy. Broad daylight, didn't hear a thing, and that door cannot open without twisting the handle (plus its a heavy door anyway, it can't just pop open on its own or by the wind!).
But DH did go outside right away, and we're 3 flights up. Didn't see or hear anything, and it was right outside the window.
DH doesn't think anyone was there...but that door cannot physically open on its own!
I'd break out my ghost hunting kit and go at it if my TV was turning on and off itself! But then, I am a nerd and have said before I am a Paranormal Investigator so I look for that shit.

Is this story supposed to make me feel better? Lol
LOL... well, maybe not. But I think talking to the ghosts and telling them to stop what they're doing helps. And my sister said she wasn't scared by the unseen hands tucking her in. She felt more soothed than anything.
