WOW.
Did you know that the Boy Scout leaders are also not required to undergo background checks? I just found that out yesterday when I asked my sister why she wasn't signing my nephew up for Boy Scouts.

Girl Scouts on the other hand run background checks on ALL volunteers Andplusalso, they are awesome.
Scouting, no matter with which organization, gives girls and boys INVALUABLE skill sets for life. For an organization to deny him the award for for all the hard work he did based on sexual orientation (whether you think he was born that way or not) is pretty messed up.

That's ridiculous.
I agree. Thank God, I had a girl!
I feel that parents should be active in Boy/Girl Scouts with their children though. My mom always dropped us off a the leaders house or whatever and picked us up when it was over...she also had 9 kids, but I was always jealous of the girls whose moms were active participants. If you are involved... there would be nothing to worry about, but this day and age, background checks should definitely be a requirement.
I never made it passed brownies because I didn't have a hat on make your own hat day because my parents had no clue. I was so embarrassed I never went back. I can't wait to be involved in that stuff with mine. I can't imagine not being. And if it turns out one day she is gay and she's still a loving respectful person and they tell her "too bad so sad you can't play anymore" I will crack some skulls. *Breakfast Club reference again, for the whippersnappers:)
