I mentioned the Color Run to a friend a few months ago when I first heard about it... I never thought we would actually do it because neither of us are runners and it is over 2 hours away.
well, it came back to haunt me today... I received a phone call from this friend and apparently a whole group from our company is going to do it... she wants us to sign up asap!
It sounds like a great idea and the race isn't until December, but I weigh almost 300 pounds and can not run 3 miles! I know I have like 6 months to get ready but I don't believe in 6 months I would be ready to run a race or even walk a race.

I just signed up for the color run near me (2 hrs away). From everything I've heard/read about the various color runs, it's much more for fun than for time. Little kids do them and I'm sure plenty of people will be walking.
On the flip side, if you do want to run it - I'd suggest Couch to 5k to ease into running. I was around 250lbs when I started C25k and ran my first 5k at ~230lbs. It can be done, if you really want to make running it a goal. Six months is plenty of time to get ready for it - even if you have to repeat weeks of the C25K program.

I'm not sure about running, but I definitely think that you can walk 3 miles by December. Can you look online for a walking program for beginners? I think the idea is to start small and add a little more time each week. You can do this!
You can do it!! This sounds like a great first race to use as a goal. Everything I've heard about the color runs sounds like a lot of fun and very low-pressure.
Start now, start small, and get out there! Color Runs, from what I hear, are more about the experience and not time-focused. If you're going in a group, you should have a blast.

Do it! Training to walk 3 miles in 6 months is totally doable. Plus, starting a walking (or running) program is a great way to ease into a healthy lifestyle. Go for it!!

6 months should be enough time to at the very least walk it. Start slow and make sure you get good shoes. Shoes that support your feet and body will make a huge difference. I recommend going to a local specialty running store.
You can totally do this! I'm 250 lbs and can now run 2 miles without stopping. When I started, I couldn't run for 30 secs. I just kept at it and it got better. 6 months is a long time and you'll be amazed at what your body can do by then. Good luck!

You'll never regret trying! Plus, those runs sound like a blast, and will bring people of all different fitness levels out so if you walk or run, I am sure you will be in good company. Good luck!
Thanks for all of the encouragement ladies! It is great to have such support...
I have started C25k numerous times but just didn't enjoy the program... I think I need to build up my mileage with walking before I try out running! 6 months is a good amount of time to start something and I have been contemplating joining my local YMCA again which would allow me to walk on the treadmill or use the elliptical!
I just never thought she would mention the Color Run again because ever other run / walk we have talked about she has skipped out on for some reason or the plans fell through. I will try to get my husband to do it with me too so he can walk or encourage me along the way.

I just did the Color Run in Racine yesterday - do not fret! So many people there, all shapes and sizes, walked it, and it was such a blast for everyone. The Color Run is an amazing race for beginners and nonrunners.

You also just might not like running very much, and thats ok. If all you ever want to do is walk, who cares, work on that! Especially if you walk with a friend, and it can be a social time as well, it helps the time and miles fly by.
