Just a question for y'all - most size charts I see have waist/hip measurements 10" apart, so 26/36, 27/37, etc.
What happens when your hips are 12" larger than waist? Would you go with the in-between size, or would you size up to fit hips? Size down to fit waist? Just curious if any of you have similar measurements, and what you usually do!
I'm a definite "pear" shape and my top half is much smaller than my bottom, so I find with dresses and things it's so difficult to get the fit right without tailoring. I usually look for pieces with flowier bottoms and just size to fit my top half.
It really depends on the item for me. If I'm buying something that is supposed to be fitted at the waist, but is looser on the hips (skirts, dresses), I go for the waist size. If it is something that is more form-fitting with not a lot of stretch, I go for hip size. The latter can be tricky for me because I'm a pear too, so sometimes the top part of something will be too big when it fits my hips. Depending on the item and how much I might have to tailor it, this is often the deciding factor. Its really just about knowing your body and what works for you! I do separates often because of this, or dresses with flowier bottoms.
