Does he gulp and then pull off and scream? We did that for a few weeks, and then he got used to my chug-a-lug let down. If that's the case, try feeding in a reclined position so baby is "uphill" a bit from the breast.
My DD does this sometimes when she's really gassy or trying to poop. Usually she calms down if she poops or farts. Though I noticed that it seems to be worse when she nurses on the right side so I'm wondering if maybe my right side is the dud boob. My pumping output on the right is not nearly as great as the left.
Probably let down is either too fast or too slow. If he's fighting after a few minutes, does he stop if you switch sides? It sounds like he's getting pissed that he has to work harder after the initial letdown. Maybe try to switch sides as soon as he starts screaming, and keep switching as often as you need to?
Or it is gas? Or the light is too bright or not bright enough? Baby's are mysterious and kind of jerky.

My son does this when he has gas. Try burping before you put him on if you can, and a lot during. Unfortunately, once he gets like that though, the rest of the feeding sucks and we just move on to the next one!
DS does this for many reasons. Too fast or too slow letdown, gas, poop, or he is pissed milk keeps coming when he just wants to suck. Basically if it is not what he wants, when he wants it, he freaks. Lol. I would also try switching boobs, belly rubs and bicycle legs, mylicon, then a pacifier if nothing else works.
