Mamaroo wasn't a hit until ds was like 1 month. Before then he preferred his bouncy chair. He only ever slept in his rnp, swaddled. We rocked him before putting him down, & he slept really well that way. I have a FP swing ( it's huge plugs into the wall and has turtles.
The Mamaroo goes way too slow. Its a cool concept though. FP makes a space saver size swing. (ETA: no idea if the space saver swing has an AC adapter though)

We had a mamaroo and a big swing. I much preferred the mamaroo. It was small enough to fit in our family room and I loved that it plugged in instead of batteries. It was fairly quiet compared to the clunking of the big swing. Because of that, we definitely used the mamaroo more. But neither of my kids were huge into swings. Check out Craigslist and such. I know my neighbor got a used mamaroo for a good price. All the cloth pieces are washable so you can wipe down the plastic and throw the cover in the wash before using.
We have both. We stuck a Tiny Love toy bar on the Mamaroo and dd loves to hang out there and play. She will not sleep in it though. I do like that the angle is so easy to adjust so she can sit up a bit more now that age has great head control. It works so well for buying me time to shower, make dinner, etc.
We ended up buying a giant swing out of desperation. Not thrilled with how big it is but she will take long naps in ut with no fight to get her down. We have the Fisher Price Snuggabunny which really isn't much cheaper than the Mamaroo. You can adjust the swing direction, speed, etc. The swing motion doesn't stop until you turn it off but the toys only spin and the music only plays for about 30 minutes. We just use a white noise machine next to it. She loves the mobile on this (it has a big mirror) and will babble to herself for a bit before falling asleep. It plugs in or can run on batteries.
