DD just informed me over dinner, quite proudly, that she hadn't peed all day at school. She hadn't peed since doing so at 8am.
WTH? Shouldn't her bladder have exploded by now? She is now in the bathroom, but seriously. I often have to insist she go to the bathroom when I've been with her all day and notice she hasn't gone in a while. But I am not with her all the time and they don't really have enforced bathroom breaks at school now that the kids are well past the PT stage.
I couldn't do it. I'm always up heading to the bathroom.
Maybe there is no need to be alarmed. Maybe I am just jealous because I spend all day peeing. Maybe one day DD will give birth and forget to do her daily kegels and will no longer be bladder-control-supergirl.
gibby has done that - once held it from 9am until 3pm when we were at a play date. i thought he had gone in his pullup and didn't want to tell me... but nope- it was dry when we got home. the kid has a bladder of steele - like his mom.
encourage her to go at school- so she doesn't get a UTI.... but don't stress too much about it- some kids/adults can just hold it all day!
and that is assuming you know she is hydrated enough... otherwise make sure she is drinking more... eating more juicy fruits, etc.
I wouldn't worry. I think this is one of those things that varies a lot from person to person.
I have always been that way--even now, at 35 and after having two kids (and 12 weeks pregnant), I can often go the entire work day without peeing. I never get up to pee during the night, even when I am days from giving birth. My 5 yo can go for hours and hours between bathroom breaks. When we drive the 7 hours to my parents' house, my DH is often the only member of the family that needs to stop to use the bathroom.
As a child I would do that pretty much every day. I rarely used the bathroom at school. Even after having 2 kids, sometimes I will only use the restroom 1x/day at work (and I drink 40-60 oz of water throughout the day). Never had any issues from it.
DS has done that, really puts a damper on 3-day potty training method when he doesn't pee at all while he's awake. And we were pumping that boy with fluids.
As long as it's not an all the time thing, I wouldn't worry. If she's sufficiently hydrated and doing it all the time, it's not good for her to stress those muscles that much. It also retards the signals to the brain of when she really should be going. If it becomes frequent, I'd start praising her for going during the day.
That is still me. I have a huge bladder (so says every u/s tech I have ever seen) and rarely get the urge to pee. I could go once or twice a day and be just fine. Even when pregnant. Unfortunately, I used to get UTI's all the time as a result of holding it too long.
DD inherited my huge bladder and lack of urge to pee. It made her super easy to potty train, but we have to force herself to go potty. She could wake up in the am, and easily hold it until the end if the school day without having to go. After a couple UTIs, it has been much easier to remind her why she needs to go during the day.
I think it is normal behavior, but also something to keep an eye on, and teach frequent trips to the potty, even without 'the urge'.
