I would agree to start with a general practitioner. They might send you to a neurologist if they're concerned about neurological issues.
To give you some peace of mind, peripheral nerve damage often takes up to a year or more to heal. If it was due to stretch injury during pregnancy it could take a fair amount more time to heal. I had an obturator nerve stretch injury from DD's birth, with pain/numbness/weakness in the distribution of the nerve, and it just recently resolved around her first birthday.

During pregnancy, I'd have started with my OB. Without an OB, or post-partum (which is the case for the OP) I'd call the GP.
FWIW, I almost never, ever go to my GP. My OB/GYN does not only my annual gynecological exam but my "regular" blood work and such, as well. But I like having a GP in my back pocket just in case I ever need to call for something specific or to get a referral to a specialist (since my insurance requires one). Much easier when I'm in the system as an existing patient even if my last visit was ages ago, compared to coming in as a new patient.
If I was going to be seeing an OB for a 6 week PP appointment, I would start there. Since you don't have an OB, I would see a GP. FWIW, I would not want to see a chiro for this without seeing a doctor first and getting confirmation from them that a chiro is a good idea for this type of injury.
