I'm looking at going to the Bahamas at the end of this year and need your opinions. Have any of you gone to the Bahamas? If so, did you stay at Atlantis? Did you like it? Suggestions for places to stay down there.
H and I were there last month on a cruise. Obviously we didn't stay at Atlantis but we did visit on a swim with the dolphins excersion and then they gave us a day space.
I can't answer what it is like to stay there but just visiting was amazing. They had the dolphins, a waterpark, an aquarium. If we go back in a couple years we will definately be staying there.
We went there on a cruise as well and loved the Bahamas. We did the day trip to Atlantis and had a lot of fun, but I have heard that it is way over priced to stay there as your main base. I have heard a lot of people recommend staying somewhere else and then purchasing the day pass if you want the water park day.
I can say that the food there was really high priced.
We stayed at the Atlantis in May, 2011. If I had to sum it up in two words, they would be expensive and overrated. Neither DH nor I would return. The hotel rooms weren't that great (though we did get ugpraded to a suite... but that was because I found *broken glass* all over the floor of our bathroom!), the place kind of stunk like a huge fishtank, and the food and beverage offerings were ridiculously expensive. Going into Nassau via taxi negated the price savings there, but the food quality was much better. Overall I just didn't love it and I would never return. Feel free to message me if you have further questions.
I agree. I didn't stay there but I went there for a day when getting off the ship. I hated it. Felt like Disney world and from what I could see over priced. I wasn't a fan of Nassau either. There are plenty of other places to stay in the hundreds of islands of the Bahamas or the Caribbean.
We've been a couple times years ago when we were a lot younger (we walked around Atlantis when it was open but not finished) and not as picky. I'd go back to an outer island, but I think staying at smaller hotels away from cruise ports really makes for a much better experience in the Caribbean.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
We stayed at The Cove at Atlantis with several other couples and absolutely loved it. We got a group rate on our rooms which helped quite a bit, and we had so much fun and the food was awesome. I would definitely do it again, but I would only stay at The Cove.
